Default Gas cap!

So I'm the dummy that left the gas cap at the pump. Dealer wants $106. Pelican parts $98.

Anywhere else I should look before spending 100 bucks on a plastic gas cap?

I did this too once in my 993. I read a suggestion here that I've been doing ever since.

After unscrewing the cap, put it on top of the driver's side windshield wiper, resting against the glass. You'll never drive off again forgetting the gas cap.

I may have a good one in my spare parts tub. Replaced mine years ago for cosmetic reasons. Hey, OCD is a legitimate illness ya know. I’ll check tomorrow and let you know. You can have it of course if it’s in my stash.

If it makes you feel any better I’ve lost two from my 997.2 in the last year. But they’re plastic crap from P and not the ten lb 993 engineering marvel gas cap.

Did you go back to the gas station to see if they have / it's where you left it?

Haaaaaaaa..... I can understand the OCD thing!!! And, class act with your offer!

However, this is the perfect time for aircooledpurist to upgrade to the Aluminum Look Porsche gas cap. $100.18 at Sunset!

I have no idea why I want one of these, but I do.

Thanks SO much for the offer. I shouldn't say it, but the folks on this Rennlist forum are a very different type of person than you find over on the Bimmerpost M3 board. Everyone here is friendly and helpful. Over there, well....

Spare parts bin? My goodness, I am WAY behind the curve over here, lol. Seriously Thanks again. BUT.... Chuck W just cost me $100.18 lol. That aluminum cap is just too cool to pass up. Would be hard to justify if I hadn't lost my red cap, but right now I'm driving around with a rag, do it isn't such an extravagance. I didn't even know I had lost my old one until I went through a half tank of gas and went to fill up again.

Classy group of guys over here. Thanks

My new routine for sure... especially since I'm buying the fancy aluminum one.

The aluminium look porsche ones, assuming they are the same as for the newer Porsches, are cheap plastic that just looks fancy.

I forked over for a new one when my old one failed emissions. I should have just replaced the seal, but I wanted to eliminate the locking feature. Had I known about the cheap gates one I would have done that for the test and went back to the original.

The red plastic section on my original cap broke, I ended up with this solid aluminum replacement. Its a nice piece, for less than the cost of the faux aluminum factory cap...
