Fister 3 with cat bypass pipes
#2
I have the Stage III. I think the loudness with otherwise stock exhaust and cats is pretty much perfect. It’s exactly as loud as I want it, but any louder would be too much.
So I’m thinking with a cat bypass...it would be too much. Have you asked Darin? He gives pretty good advice on these things.
Here’s how it sounds on an otherwise stock exhaust system.

Too loud...? Subjective, just like ride quality. I had Stage lll’s on my 97 C4S immediately after acquiring her in 2010, actually made note of the style-Bischoff or Gillette, while inspecting the car prior to purchase. I was generally happy with the exhaust note, until hearing the Stage lll, hi-flow cat/x pipe combo at Hershey a couple years back.
Can’t comment on the noise catless, but find the hi-flow cat with x pipe, and Stage lll’s to be a symphony of sound.
Loud yes, incredible under load especially when the varioram kicks in .

I find the stage 2 with otherwise stock exhaust about as loud as I want to go and being civil. On the highway you can still speak with your passenger (loudly).
I live in the middle of a big city but if you live somewhere rural you might be comfortable with more noise.

I have Fister stage 3 with fabspeed x-pipe and their 100 cell sports cats. I previously had stage 2 and before that a different set of stage 3 mufflers (all Fister) with the same x-pipe and then also with OEM cats. So I have heard it all!
What I will say is that the 2 sets of stage 3 mufflers sounded very different - they are not the same even when comparing the same stages together. So you will read people saying "I like my stage 3's not too loud" , or "stage 3's are way too loud". Basically you won't know until you hear it on your car with your set up as tiny differences in manufacturing tolerances do make an acoustic difference you can hear.
From my perspective, I really like the sound of stage 3 with x-pipe and sports cats.
I tried without the cats and it sounded a little too 'farty' not sporty. If you get a fabspeed x-pipe it's modular so you could try it with cat delete first and if you don't like it order the cats and slot them in.

running Fister IIIs here with 200 cell cats and it's wonderfully loud. anything beyond what i currently have might be a tad too much. it is subjective though - depends what your desires are and what you consider 'loud'. IIIs and cat bypass will be LOOOOOOUD!

This video may help. I love the sound (and reduced weight) of the stage III’s but found the stage III’s Were just too loud in concert with the fabsoeed sport cats. Every time I started the car, car alarms would go off. And the cars were sometimes parked over a block away. Loud.
Like the three bears, the Fister Stage II’s are just right IMHO.

In the past I have had Fister III's and Stock Cats.
Now I have Fabspeed Sport cats X and Fister II's and it is louder than the previous Fister III set up by about 20% but the sound is more articulated with better definition.
It is exciting while working hard but mellow enough in the hood going slow..
Very much a subjective choice.

I have Fister III's with Sport Cats! They have quite a bark on cold start up! During drives, I keep the RPMs up for the sweetest sound--wow! You can't be the shy type driving around with Fister III's, because they always announce their arrival on-station--lol! Oh, I forgot where I heard it before but I think it says "Loud pipes save lives!" Lol!
When I hear someone else with a nice sounding 993 driving by or entering a parking lot, it's almost always Fister 111's--nuff said.
But agree, individual preference always in play.

Just offering my opinion. I have stage twos and cat bypass and it wide open throttle with the windows down it’s quite loud. Inside the cabin is moderate but unless you’re on the gas it’s as quiet as without the cat bypass
