I recently lucky enough to get my hands on a 17,000 mile 993 coupe. It's a 95, meaning the car was driven just 700 miles a year.

So I am wondering, among Rennlisters, how many low mile cars are in the group? Are any of you intentionally trying to keep your car's miles down?

My thoughts were that I tried to buy the best car I could afford. I did pay a premium for my car, but on the plus side that means there are a lot of things I don't need to spend money on. I'm now trying to bring the car as close to perfect as is justifiably possible. That said, I plan on enjoying the car. I'm def going to drive the car on a recreational basis as much as the weather here in CT allows. If I put 5,000 miles a year in the car so be it.

If you have a low mile car.... please chime in. What are the circumstances, how long have you owned it, what are your thoughts on accumulating additional miles?

I've always wanted one of these things, am thrilled I finally own one. Who am I 'saving' it for?

1996 C2

My friend had the car from about 98 or so. He passed away last year and I purchased the car from his family. While I have a tendency to modify everything, I decided initially to keep the car stock to maintain its value......

That idea has gone out the window, and I decided to make the car I want, and not what i perceive to be the most "valuable".

I originally also planned to keep the mileage super low......again to maintain value, but that has also gone out the window.

In the end, these cars are hobbies, and there is a certain cost involved with that. Have fun with your toy, and whatever value is lost in the racking up in miles will be totally worth it.

Congrats. How did you find it? After 10 yrs, I am about at the same rate by default on my C2S. I'll break 30K in 2 yrs. I've got to get out of the North East.

Online. Car was in LaJolla, CA.... owned by a collector from Boston. I've put 500 miles on it in the month I've had it registered, lol

Bought mine with 28K on it in March. I drive it every day just about. I expect to put tons of miles on it - definitely not a collector car. I think I ended up with a low miles car because I wanted a clean example and also close to stock as possible. It wasn't necessarily a goal in my purchase to end up with such a low miles example. Just kind of how it happened.

Our '95 had just under 10k on it when we purchased it in 2007. We immediately drove it to Rennsport III at Daytona but, shortly thereafter, realized that it was so nice it deserved to be kept that way...So, I found the C2S for a "driver". We drive the '95 sparingly to shows, cars & coffee, etc. and I keep it current on maintenance. Now, after 12 years of ownership, it's closing in on 17K. It's "Dr. Jykll" and the C2S is "Mr. Hyde". Truth be known, the '95 is so smooth, I could literally drive from here to Hell and back in that car!

I daily mine.. mileage is good as long as you maintain it properly and give it regular exercise. Although it could be an investment, id rather use is and have a strong retention in value - i got stocks and other investments to build value - insurance, registration and space the car takes up are costs as well.

I bought my '95 C4 a few years ago with 29K miles. I don't drive it a lot, and I must admit it hurt to break the 30K barrier, since the value of the cars is so sensitive to mileage.

Main thing in low miles is that it keeps it clean so it won't dirty up the adjoining coffin for the 993 when you are 6 feet under......

Here's my '96 993 with 15K miles. I'm the original owner and the car starts instantly and runs perfectly, and I only average 650 miles/year. Air-cooled cars to easy to store, since the corrosive properties of non-running coolant/water is the enemy of stored cars.

I bought my '97 993 from a collector in NJ in 2005 who was the 2nd owner and it only had 28k miles on it.
Today, it only has 143k miles on it. :-)

Bought mine from original owner with 29k miles on it in 2007. I proceeded to put 8k mikes on it that summer and never once thought about the mileage. Although I don't drive it as nearly as much today, it's only because I have 3 cars and only put 6-10k mikes/yr on all three combined due to travel. I drive it whenever I can but only have about 63k now.

I respect the effort it takes to own and curate an ultra low mileage example, but I am just NOT the proper steward for such a car.

Last Monday, mine turned over 121,000 miles while ripping around the track at BIR (Brainerd International Raceway). When I parked it for the evening just now, three days later, I happened to notice it has exactly 121,750. At this point every click of the odometer just brings me a sort of perverse satisfaction. I don’t feel the slightest twinge of guilt racking up the mileage, and it seems like the more I use the car the better it runs.

But again, I truly appreciate the pristine examples as well. To each their own. Enjoy!

Got mine in May 2018 a 1994 C2 in abandon garage and collecting dust with side windows open about 2cm on both doors with only 1,193 KM on the clock. The car was sitting on the jack stand for 14 years. Glad to found that car and now its back on the road again. I wish i know how to post the photos.
