Right from the Stabilus web site: note the Stabilus part number.

You know, if you sold the 993 and bought a 993 Turbo, you'd be OK with those struts.

Well, he's already has the correct struts, just another small step to get the car that goes with them.

" they are VERY strong. As in, the lid lifts with authority."
Normal, they will lift with less authority over time.

There is a big difference between 83 pounds (stock) and 135 pounds (wrong item) per strut. And using one on one side isn't the solution. Just get the right ones.

just some FYI.....the rear shocks that are correct for the 993 also fit the 993 turbo.....the reason the ones you have are so strong is because they are for the 964 turbo and the 911 turbo/m491 cars.....
the older turbo cars have the fat black heavy rear spoiler that wraps the deck lid, which requires the 911 512 331 02.... the 993 turbo rear spoiler is about the same weight as the normal 993 because of the driving mechanism
for the spoiler that raises...the rear spoiler for the turbo is fiberglass, so not much added weight.....that both 993's require the 911 512 331 01...uses the wrong ones can break the mounts and using just one, bend the mounts
as well as tweaks the rear deck lid.....
if the 993 is a cab and or the raised third brake light on the deck lid, than it takes even a different shock....993 512 321 00
this information is per Porsche.....
the correct fix is very simple.....make sure you get the proper shocks....
good luck....

Timely thread...currently experiencing the same intermittent issue, it just won’t stay up. A little gentle lift with my fingertips usually helps keep it up.
thoughts?

The OEM struts themselves are $ 72.00 each at dealer and less than that a bit on-line........PITA to change with the clips at both ends, but having long arms helps........the one time I did them myself I knew it would be the last time..........on my third set in 23 years......
