I just deleted the sunroof on my 964. Eliminated 35 pounds at weight, and opened up 3 inches of headroom.

Hadn't considered doing this... mind sharing the rough cost. Not including any paintwork.

Total cost was $150 for the Fenn Lane panel, and two weekends sweat equity. I wouldn’t hesitate to do this project again.

I also had to buy a new front and rear windshield seal. If you want to replace the roof liner, that’s an additional expense

Fenn Lane Panel
You did it yourself! That's cost effective but requires more skills than I currently have. $150 for the panel is reasonable. I'm going to shop around to see what this would cost me to get someone to do this.

Why would you need new front and rear window seals?

Go for it! It’s worth the time and effort. Try to find a shop that’s familiar with the process as there’s a bit of a learning curve.

I cut the window seals to remove the front and rear windshields. You’ll want the glass out for a proper repainting of the roof. The glass should remain intact, but you’ll need new seals to replace them.

Cut the windshield seals to remove glass for respray

Glass out (rear side windows pull right out)

Pretty ridiculous. That said, my car has a sunroof and I've never opened it. I'd just as soon not have it. Just another thing to break and leak.
Agree with all of this, especially the last point.

I only like my SR to vent the cabin against buffeting with my window down

however I’d much rather it wasn’t there

non SR = more desirable

When I had the race car, I preferred a non sunroof 993; I could've used the extra headroom. With my pure street car, I actually use my sunroof on a regular basis and like it very much. No headroom issues for me since I no longer wear a helmet in the car. If it didn't have a sunroof, I'd be fine, though.

OP, if anyone asks you why your 993 is worth more with the sunroof delete, just show them Foxman's pictures and tell them they could always do it themselves!

Thanks everyone for the great commentary! Love the ambitious deletion by Foxman!

I appreciate all the insight.

In Italy the 993 was imported by Porsche Italia without the sunroof, which means, if you wanted, it was option.

I really never understood why so many 993 has been ordered with sunroof...ok, it was a time when Porsche wanted to show Mercedes to be able not only making usable but also very comfortable sport cars.

Maybe it has a sense jumping back in the past...but if I stop considering how a 993 should be, it must be definitely without sunroof, definitely with M030 suspensions and X51 kit (plus code 220).

I was looking for one without...if I wanted a sunroof, I would have had a look around for a Targa, one of the most beautiful 911 ever made.

If you ask me, the sunroof was an extra you had to pay for in all ROW markets.

So I'm going to take this back. It's the first really pretty weekend that we've had since I bought my car and I drove with the sunroof open, windows down.

As with practically everything in this car, it's pretty awesome. Huge greenhouse, big windshield and open air - first time I've ever liked a sunroof.

I have one but would def prefer if it were not there. My M3 has a carbon fiber roof with no sunroof. Cleaner, more ridged, more headroom.
