Default C4S Tire Help

Hi All - I am installing new wheels on my '97 C4S that are 8.5x18 ET 46 front and 11x18 ET 40 rear and am struggling with tire selection. I am well versed in sizing/offsets and have done my research pouring through dozens of threads and comparing specs on numerous tires. I know that 235/40 and 295/30 can fit as some have mentioned here and many recommend the Sumi HTRs for a great all round tire. I came across a great deal on some Yokohama Advan AD08s for only a couple hundred more, and while I'm not worried about the section width, I am concerned that the wider tread width may cause rubbing issues as the tire is more square. I am lowered on coilovers and I read that the PS2s will rub under this scenario, but PS2s are almost an inch wider in tread width than the Sumis and the Advans are in between. Has anyone run a similar setup with the Advans and had any issues? Thanks.

How low is your car? Generally if your not RS or lower, I'd think you would be fine.

Currently I'm below RS, top of the front tire is tuck above the bottom of the wheel well. It's how I bought it and I plan on raising it. Rear has about a finger gap

You'll have to raise it cause it likely it will rub or get an alignment setting with enough camber. I'm under the impression AD08 are very square vs sumis a slimmer time which will stretch on an 11" rim.

I wouldn’t deviate from the OEM sizes for the C4S due to the AWD System. 225/40/18 and 285/30/18

Thanks Knight, based on my measurements and calculations that's what I believe too. Hence the shout out to the forum looking for someone to chime in with their own experience with the Advans. I would hate to drop the $$ to find out they won't work even if I raise it an inch or so. Cheaper to go with the Sumis and add a spacer if need be.

I have C4S with exactly same wheel sizes and offsets as you. I'm running Sumitomo HTR Z III. 235/40/18 Front and 295/30/18 Rear with no issues. I don't really know my ride height exactly but I think it's close to RS+10.

AD08s are great tyres, though not in the snow I'll wager........................
They do have a square profile as another poster mentioned, and stiff sidewalls.

I think you will have rub issues at current ride height, but maybe not??
I've run 245 / 315s on a 993 that was RS+10.
No issues in rear, some rub on front on inside when max turn input (parking lots)

Thanks Andy - I saw your car in some previous threads and it's one of my inspirations. Looks like I'll get the Sumis instead of taking the chance on the Advans.

Hey pipes,

I live in calgary and have a C4S. I'm lowered but not as much as you are. I run 996 turbo twists so they are an inch wider in the rear than stock and have a 5 mm spacer. Running 295 sumis in the rear and have never had any rubbing issues. You are welcome to check it out if interested before you make a decision!

Derek

Beautiful C4S BTW! Never seen that color before!

Running 235 and 295 Mich PS2 on Tramonts no rubbing at 10 above RS. Have a set of Sumi on 996 turbo wheels, the Mich are a nice improvement

I'm sure the michelins are much better but for my driving style, the sumis perform just fine, are quiet and sticky enough and are substantially less expensive!

The OP was asking about rubbing with PS2, hence the reply. No argument the Sumi is fine for most, it’s all about what you want to spend and your expectations. Sumis flat spot more than the Michelin based on my experience.

I found Hankook to be a nice tire for the price.
