Drive with Clock removed????

My clock on my 96 993 is out of the car for repair.
Any issues regarding driving the car while it’s out?

Cactus 04-09-2019 11:04 PM

Yes. I was just driving without the speedo.

911Jeff 04-09-2019 11:12 PM

I am asking about the clock, not the speedo. Thanks anyway Cactus.

Issues? Detail

With all the warning lights in the clock connected to the “brain”, I am wondering what the reaction would be to having these connections disconnected?

Turning on the ignition without the clock installed will fire a fault code in the airbag control unit due to the missing warning lamp. That's all, except for the risk of being late to appointments.

The fault code will trigger the warning lamp as soon as it is reinstalled, and you will need a Porsche-compatible OBD tool to reset the fault.
Cheers,
Tore

Well in your defense, there's only like, um, 6 warning lights in the clock, so.... :roflmao:

Thanks to all....

There is another issue!
If you drive without the clock (at least with the 95 model) the battery will not be charged as it needs the load control light in the clock!!
So the car will run for a while but stop when the battery is gone as the car needs battery power to run!
When the load in the battery goes down, other warning lights from the other instruments will pop up as e.g. the ABS light ...
cheers
Holger

Does anyone know if this battery charge issue is the same on a 96?

Maybe I should play it safe and not even think about driving the car until the clock is fixed or replaced?

Not a bad idea, since real porsche diagnostics tools are not at every indie shop, but will be needed to turn off the airbag light.

Some say the Durametric tool will do the job, but I had one and it did not. Maybe you have to have the professional version; since I did have the latest software release and still no cigar.

A Bosch hammer, PST2, or PIWIS, are for sure the cure.

Porsche should have done that with odometer/speedometer removal; prevent some potential "low-very low mileage" specimens from surfacing.

Confirmed! Clock is out for repair - decided to start the car and let her run for a bit - battery died. I should search this forum before doing anything! :banghead:
