**** happens.

If the O2 is original, even moving it could cause it to go bad. That’s the way it is with old cars. If it were my mechanic, he would be like, ok, no big deal, and I would pay for a new O2 (I bought a Bosch one for my 95 for $15 I think not sure what the 98 version costs) and he would maybe charge me a bit of labor or not and I’d hand him some cash regardless and it would be a total non-issue. Well actually, if it was a bad O2, I would replace them all.

I will let you all know how it all ends up, wonder what the guys in Vegas would give me on the odds of the outcome

When my mechanic installed the sport cat in my '96 he warned me that anytime you mess with the O2 sensors this far from new you have about a 50/50 percent chance of them getting messed up. He taped a short piece of bamboo skewer to them so that the wire did not twist at the sensor but further up and when all was said and done he said - "you got lucky".

I'd guess your mechanic forgot to mention that.

Regards,

.

I think the odds are quite good maybe 80/20 that he will fix it for free, or maybe the cost of a sensor. the longer you wait the less those odds get.

Default Problem Resolved!!

Quick update on the resolution (sorry for the delay in posting). When I went back to the mechanic a few months ago, he recommended that we replace the battery due to its age. Low and behold the problem went away.

No more codes and has been running strong ever since!!

Thanks for everyone's help!!
