And yes, when you pay good money for a service, having to go behind someone else's work is a PITA. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the advice from the board.

Thank you to everyone else for the constructive thoughts. It's a learning process owning a car like this, especially when there aren't tons of shops capable of working on them.
The combination of the 993 idiosyncrasies and RL advice can make you nuts. Your oil level is fine don’t sweat it. My shop puts 10.5 qts in the 993 and 9.0 in the 997.2. These amounts seem to work best and may require a small OCD top up when checked hot. You’ve only begun to experience the 993’s essential weirdness my friend - ballast resistors, door pocket reinforcement kits, DME relays, immobilizer glitches, door lock actuator failures.......

I would agree with RL making people nuts!!! These 993's are very durable and worrying about the oil level being full (not over filling) is not worth the time. whoever does your oil change should provide you with a quart of half a quart when you leave. It is so easy to get the oil level right where you prefer doing it that way. Discussions of warming up cars for periods of time etc...just begins to be crazy. Fill the car with oil, turn the car on and drive it smoothly at first...then let it rip once the thermostat value has opened and warmed up...everyone knows that part ..... I hope!

Mike,

Your comments are at best disingenuous and embellished.

I don't see any experts on this thread, but I do see some that think they are....................
All posters merely wrote their opinions, some more fully informed with facts than others.

Cheers

You make no sense.

While this info isn't inappropriate for purposes of verifying oil level, it's not accurate based on the the manual.

1) The 993 oil thermostat opens at 181F.
2) The first single line on the oil temp gauge is 194F.
3) Assuming sufficient airflow to the oil cooler, the car is "up to Temp" once it hits 181F, before the first line, and certainly before "half way."
4) 9:00 on the gauge is probably 221F, 40F beyond when the car starts to cool itself. In fact, if it gets much hotter than 9:00, a (properly working) low speed oil cooler fan will kick on to force the temp back down.

Just trying to keep Rennlist accurate. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

Even though I sold my 993 and moved to a Cayman a couple of years ago, I still wander back over to the 993 board every now and then just to see what's going on. I had to grin when I came across an active thread on measuring oil level, yet I read every post just to see if anything has changed. It hasn't of course and the 993 crowd still has the best technical board on RL. Guess I'll wander back over to the Cayman board and see how the door decal poll is going.
