Top suddenly stops half way down
Hi guys,
I have a strange problem with my 993 convertible top.
It suddenly stops at the same position approximately half way down.
If I jiggle the top back and forth while pressing the button, it starts to go down again after a few times.
When I am closing the top, it never stops.
It always closes perfect.
I have checked the motors, the cables (they seem to be long enough), the gear box and I have done an alignment.
The right mechanism arms did touch each other a bit at the stopping position, but I adjusted it so it does not touch each other now.
But the problem is still there.
This is very frustrating!
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thx in advance!
Patrik

You might have the common problem with solder faults in the control unit. This can be fixed relatively fast for a guy with some experience with a soldering iron.
The control unit is stacked with the Central Informer unit, under the dashboard instruments. Removal of the unit is easiest done through one of the instrument openings.
Cheers,
Tore

So I did a summary post a few years ago....look in this thread.
I provide links to causes and solutions:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...ized-lock.html
I personally had two causes...the first was a bad cable, the second was the under dash controller.
I'll bet it is is the solder faults in the ECU.
If you have a bad ECU (and I'll bet you do) and you need it re-soldered and you don't want to do it:

Tore will do it for you.

Thx for your answer.
The problem is not intermittent, the top stops at the exact same position everytime I try to lower it down, so I don't think it's a soldering problem or?

I can attest your symptoms were similar to what you described. I kept thinking it was the switches or cables; however, after verifying those were adjusted properly I ended up getting the control top module reflowed professionally and it worked like new. $50 labor. I considered sending it to Tore, but the distance, shipping to Norway, etc. I just ended up finding someone recommended locally. Either way it is far cheaper than a refurbished one that still costs $500. Good luck.

Good afternoon guys!
The problem is solved!
The wiring harness on the upper right side of the top had some tear and wear and one cable was intermittently in contact the metal top frame.
It was more of a coincidence that I found it.
The placement of the cable is not perfect at that spot.
Check on your cars before something happens.
Have a great weekend ladies and gentlemen!
