Depressing Clutch to Start Car
I was reading the resurrected thread on replacing the kinematic lever and someone noted that MY96 had some switch that required depressing the clutch to start the car. I don't have to do this on my '96, so I was wondering if something is missing, broken, bypassed, etc.
I also saw something recently about removing the cruise control. I have never used CC in the 20+ years of ownership. What are your thoughts on removing CC and is it a worthwhile (read "easy") task?
No issues, just curious.

Genuinely curious - why would you care or even try to start without clutch depressed? I have never tried to start any manual car without first depressing the clutch. It’s safer and most cars require it anyway, I wouldn’t save any time by skipping this 0.05 second step if I had to think on it for s bit first to remember if this car requires it or not. But maybe there’s a reason I’m missing.

Personally, I just did it once as an experiment because I heard it was necessary on some 993s and was curious if mine was one of them. In normal operation I always depress the clutch first.

Interesting how many depress the clutch by habit. I've never depressed the clutch on any manual car I've owned (race or otherwise)...just always had the cars in neutral when I shut them off, and have my foot on the brake when I start it. Once, a mechanic put the car in gear and when I picked it up, felt the engagement before it got out of hand. I just put the handbrake on when I park it....guess that's my habit.

Curious, what would be the benefit from removing the CC? If the module is not working or causing other issues, then I can see doing it. But if it just “there” (working or otherwise), I don’t see how that pearl is worth the dive ... just my opinion tho.
