Police Light ? ? ?

I enjoy his videos, very cool car. I wonder if the steering wheel was a change? I thought the RS steering wheel was different. Anyway, also wondering what the deal is with the roof mount warning light. Anyone, have any insight? Cheers

Very cool, thanks! Two things that jumped out at me : (1) the airbag steering wheel instead of RS wheel, and (2) the exhaust sounds quite different from a standard 993. I have no explanation for either.

So does the police light have a part number and does your Porsche dealer have one tucked away that they have forgotten about?

Demuro is such a dumbass. The simplest google search tells you it's not a police light, but rather a roadside warning light that you have a tire puncture, used in Japan. That it's purple might have been his first clue.

^^p.s. that seems to be the actual light (Patlite) in the Porsche's trunk.

I'd like to retrofit my hood to use a manual prop rod like the RS has. Tired of my hood struts crapping out. Wonder if there is a kit on the market for this change!

Doug gets a lot of hate. Sometimes he comes off as a doofus but I think a lot of that is intentional. I have always appreciated his work. He doesn't always get all the details just right but he has owned a lot of different cars and reviewed more than most will get a chance to in a lifetime. I think that gives him some good perspective.
Haven't watched this one yet but I look forward to it.

But I'll keep my gas struts, thanks.

Somewhat surprised the battery cut-off doesn't have the cable attached that goes to the missing handle to the left of the steering wheel. Looks like the cable bracket IS installed in the frunk.

Since this is a car originally from Japan, airbags were required. Most cars that have been imported to the US have come from Japan, hence you will see they all have standard airbag equipment.

Doug is laser-focused on his internet audience, which he knows well, but that target market has only some overlap with our 993 RL forum. So he spends a lot of time on the "special" bag in the frunk, but little or no mention of the 993 RS specific suspension tweaks, brakes and bias (similar to but not the same as 993 Turbo brakes), seam-welding, etc. Intentional on his part I think, as some have said.
I bought my 993 RS over a dozen years ago while living in Japan. I have a project 993 that is almost finished, but while I have the weight down to RS levels, and the project car has more power than the RS, I cannot get close to the "lightness and tossability" of the 993 RS driving experience. Maybe some magic Porsche dust, but also maybe all in my mind.
Yes airbag SW standard on the Japan 993 RS, and my car has the same battery cut-off as in the video, although I have also seen a couple of Japan RS cars where the cut-off cable is connected all the way to the cabin.
Very special car.
