I've only ever owned black daily drivers. For my sins. In my experience the paint on 993's is extremely soft- you will be detailing often to keep it show clean. I have many swirl marks after a professional paint correction less than 6 months ago.

I think having a black DD is definitely doable. All depends on your weekly car care regiment. Paint correct, Nano coat, wash with foam cannon as needed, enjoy!

have an 04 575 maranello in black (nero)

swore would never do black again

then had it paint corrected/entire car wrapped in xpel ultimate about 20k miles...now at 80k+

super easy to care for now...would definitely buy black again

I had a black 911 and will never own another black car. It was a full time job to keep it clean which if you don't mind, I'd say go for it!

If you are experienced with detailing, I say go for it as nothing looks better than black when clean! Both my 993 and daily are black, and while I don’t mind keeping up with the cleaning, I am looking at going the correction, Xpel, ceramic route in the next few weeks on both.

IMHO, black is the best color for 993s. However, they only look pristine after being driven off the showroom floor or after a detailing. They are definitely a labor of love. Xpel would be a great way to go... and damn expensive.

I have a black 993 every other day driver, it is definitely a labor of love/frustration. The paint is soft and you can't even breath on it without getting scuff or swirl marks. It doesn't take long to give it a good polish but I'm about ready to wrap it so I can give my OCD a chance to relax.

I had a black GTI back in the day. Looked incredible for the 10 minutes after you washed/detailed it. I'll never own another black car.

Go for it if:
a. You don’t mind having a car that looks dirty most of the time
b. You don’t mind having a car that picks up scratches and swirls easily
c. One of your hobbies is washing, waxing, polishing, clay, buff, lather, rinse, repeat...
d. You don’t mind paying someone to do C frequently
e. You don’t mind that two days after either C or D you will be referring back to A

I had a black 911 that wasn’t even a daily driver and it was still a pain. It got dirty just sitting in the garage. If it were a really special car I would consider the right metallic black 993 since it hides dust and blemishes much better than standard black.

Have had two black daily drivers (the first I ordered that way but I was young and it was my first new car - what did I know?). The second was bought used despite being black (E92 M3). I will try to avoid another black car.

For me, it is too much upkeep to be worth it. I appreciate a clean black car though and give thumbs up to an owner who keeps up with one.

Never again. Beyond frustrating color not worth the effort imo.

I own 3 black cars ... it’s a labor of love for me. Nothing looks better than a clean black car.
