Any love for the Pioneer AVH-3300NEX retractable-screen stereo?
There seem to be only a couple options for single-DIN stereos with Apple Carplay / Android Auto (an AWESOME feature, by the way!) and the 3300NEX seems to be a slam dunk perfect stereo for the 993. Has anyone installed it? You can even run the Panasonic with the screen retracted, making it a bit more acceptable to those preferring more "classic" looks.
Street price is a reasonable $450. And Crutchfield's web site claims it will fit our cars. Pic:

I believe technically it will fit the radio space, but I'm thinking there will not be enough room for the pop-up to be at 90degrees straight up.
Long time ago, when I looked at a similar head unit circa 2009 that was the issue that presented.
I remember seeing someone having totally bastardized a 993 dash to take out the center vents to allow a similar set-up.
@curve lover Got any pics of something like this in your treasure trove of images?

A lot of hyperlinks to photo-hosting sites RLers used to post pics have died over the years.
I think @graham_mitchell had some shots of his stereo on the now-defunct site "international-man-of-mystery".com - maybe he can re-post shots of his install.
From the "What after-market Radio/CD do you guys have?" thread:

That Nav set up is terrific! It looks awesome in there.

As a side note: a cool feature is that you can set the screen angle how you like it, and the unit will always open up to that setting. A video explains it:

Sorry, but no love for electronics like these in a 993. Aesthetically it's a non-starter. And who really wants to talk on the phone, or receive texts and emails while driving a 993. Even the radio is unnecessary when you have a built-in concerto of Fister II's with sport cats. I leave the cell phone off and just drive the car - it;s the best part of my day.

Display on the Porsche Classic radio is too small and too low. The big plus of the Sony is a full sized nav display of either Apple or Google maps. Oh, and it accommodates a backup camera too.

Well after taking some rough measurements, it seems the Pioneer 3300NEX won't do. Instead of the screen being 90 degrees, it'll be angled around 53 deg. It would be fine at 70 degrees, but 53 deg is pretty useless.
So until somebody sells a remote-screen head unit (unlikely) or someone figures out how to remove/remount the Pioneer (or similar) screen, the Sony AX100 seems our best choice.
The extended mounts in the above pics is just yukky. No thanks!
