When I did mine I replaced the whole roof and finished it w/ Perlon, what you depends on how finished you want it.

The delta is 54#, the biggest benefit is headroom when wearing a helmet
That's exactley how mine was done. Could even be mine it's the same colour. Beautiful job looks completely original. Be advised that going to a 993 roof will require a 993 front screen if you use the complete roof with scuttle.

There certainly is body filler on that one! That's far from paint perfect. Looks pretty good though.

Now this is the right way to do it! Spot welds on the window frames and side seams in the gutter. Bill do you have underside pics of the sunroof delete version? I was not sure if the roof panel included internal structure. Based on your pics they do. Maybe enough to push me over the edge.

No need to get a whole new roof skin unless the car has some serious rust issues. And I wouldn't use the existing sunroof panel and weld around it. The gaps are too big to just weld your way to seal them. The Fenn Lane panel is perfect, but you need a shop that knows what they're doing to install it. It has to be seam welded but carefully because the roof skin and panel are thin, putting too much heat will warp the metal. When properly done the result is spectacular.

Does anyone know a shop in the Mid Atlantic area or NE that could handle this and do it well? And also potentially a 964 WB conversion?

Iím looking to do both and would like it done right the first time.

Contact RL's Cobalt, he's recently been through a WB conversion (check his threads for comments). He'll also know the best shops in the region.

Pino @ RSR Autobody Restoration in Wykoff, NJ. I was very close to using him. Pino is a great guy and his work is the finest.

Robert @ Finaltouch Collision in West New York, NJ. I got a few referrals from RL members who had their car refinished by them. I ended up using them after visiting the shop.

Another shop which I was referred to by Ilko (they did his RS) was Knight Time Autoworks / ERodTECH Rides in Argyle, NY. I spoke to them but it was too far away for me.

I spoke to/got quotes from all three of these shops.

Everything I need for my project (so far) has arrived and now it's just up to when the bodyshop can take the car.

Can you give us a ballpark figure on those quotes? Thanks!

They ranged from $15-25k.

The problem is the body shop has gone deep silent. I'm thinking of selling the car and not buying a black one at this stage which is a shame as the interior has been redone completely and the car is as strong as an ox.

Should have been half done by now.

The sunroof delete as part of a full respray and overall cosmetic restoration quotes ranged from 15-30k. Much of the variation depended on a few things: your expectations and desired results, the overall condition of the vehicle (any rust, body repairs or prior accident damage to fix) and how far you want to go replacing parts; new glass, bumpers, trims, rubbers, seals, lights, fasteners, bolts, screws your adding significantly to the cost. This was in the NYC/NNJ area. Iím sure cost will vary around the country.
