Engine bay sound deadening
I was wondering if anybody had removed the engine bay sound deadening material and kept the interior deadening materia in place? With just the engine bay material gone, was there really that much of an increase in heat and engine noise?
I love the clean look of a few cars out there that have the material removed.
Also, what is the best why to remove it?
While the new RS tail is being painted, now would be a good time to tackle this project.
The only thing that is stopping me is the possible increase in heat and "the hassle factor" of the project.
I would welcome the increase in engine noise.
Thank you
Kevin

I have read the thread you mentioned.
It talks about the removal of ALL sound deadening material.
I am just interested in removing the engine bay material, not any of the interior material.
Thank you for your help

Sound Tracks
I had this exact procedure done at the stealer. Removed engine sound insulation and left the interior alone at 90k. I really like the results (I prefer listening to the engine noise rather than the blaupunkt) with the motorsound air box and k&n, not too loud at all or highly noticeable at idle or driving around town, but hit the highway at 5-6k and it is sweet.
My engine insulation sheet was drooping and rather than reglue or replace, I asked the mechanic his thoughts, he said if I wanted a few decibels more there was no reason not to remove (as is often done for the track). I have found one small issue (which I have zero problem with) if you have been really running the car hard on a hot day, and come to a hard stop, you can catch a slight wafting in the cabin from the cat/exhaust gases moving forward under the quick heavy braking. But I highly reccomend this to those who want to enjoy a little more "music".

Cabin
There is no noticeable change in cabin temp after removal. It does take a few more minutes at idle on a cold day for the engine to come up to operating temp. (with lower engine sound tray removed). Although it has only been 5 months since the removal, so it has yet to be proven in July.
(I am not worried however based off of current pleasant experience)

Hey Articfox and Boris
Thank you very much for your replys.
I have been thinking about this for a year.
Every time I clean the engine, I see the sound insulation drooping down.
You have given me the courage to go for it!
Thanks again

fyi - i haven't removed my engine insultation. i'm not that worried about the noise - but added heat would be a real bummer. if you do remove it - please let me know how much it weighs...
also - how easy is it to remove it with the engine in the car?
cheers,
boris
