I recently removed both glass lenses from the headlight housings, cutting plastic welds as has been noted before. There was hazy film on the inner surfaces.. After simple non-NH3 cleaning, difference is dramatic- clear, more light emanating.

I have Tore's HID low beams that are great but would like to upgrade the Hi beams. A couple of people have mentioned the Morimoto projectors. Can someone comment on these? Is it just a simple bulb swap? Can someone give a link to the exact bulbs i would need? Thanks.

In short- no. Have you taken your headlights out yet? It's really easy and then you can see what they are talking about. Basically the projector (the big glass ball the light shines through) in the headlights is an old design- replace that with the Morimoto projector kit specifically for 993 headlights as a starting point. Then replace the low beam halogen bulb with the Xenon kit from Bergville FX- again this is specifically for the 993 and a big improvement. If you want you could then replace the high beam halogen with an LED... I didn't and I don't think it needs it as the Morimoto kit replaces the high beam functionality - when you flash the headlights it moves the cutoff up and out the way so you get full Xenon beam. There's a simple mod you can do do that allows you use both the Morimoto projectors and your halogen or LED high-beam at the same time- basically you splice the wires for each together. I did do that mod and highly recommend you do to and it's worth it. It's much easier than this all sounds once you open the lights and look inside. To sum up start with the Morimoto kit and Bergville FX kit and you'll figure it out.

Anyone with OEM Litronics upgraded to Morimoto? I am wondering how big the improvement is? According to their installation guide I need to change the light bulb (D2S to H1) but can re-use the ballasts? Any info appreciated! Thanks.

You just need the projector not the bulbs or ballasts if you already have Bergvill kit. You can can consider the high beam splitter kit or just do it yourself .

Get the 993 retro fit 993 kit...add the high beam splitter option for $5. Add in a LED hi beam bulb, and PRESTO...two high beam bulbs! The bi-xenon opens when you trigger the high beams, eliminating the “cut off flap”...that is high beam #1, utilizing the HID bulb there, the splitter also activates the traditional high beam location now hosting the LED bulb...that is high beam #2.
For years I drove an older Audi with 8” round rally lights thru bolted to the front bumper...always missed the lights, not anymore.
This combo is simply jaw dropping in the lighting performance. Take the time to re-aim the lights, horizontally, and vertically. Worth every GD dollar!

Re the HID bulbs -- is there any reason to go with Tore's bulbs over the Morimoto bulbs if you don't have either? I'm going to order the Morimoto projectors and will order the bulbs from them as well unless there's a reason not to.

Yes. His kit is designed for the 993 and the ballast screws directly to the dust cap, no drilling required. No wires need cut either.

Don't do it. Apart from the fact that most of the 55w ballasts aren't actually 55w it will create much more heat than the 35w and more than you will want in your small-headlights-not-designed-for-a-hot-ballast.
