Any airflow effect will be negligible from bent vanes. Personally, I'd pull the whole unit out. Straighten the vanes, bead blast, paint, and reinstall everything. Also, I wouldn't run a cracked fan. That's likely what started this whole mess...

Thank you, that's the plan. I really cannot imagine why the fan would crack within the span of 1 year, though - it was basically brand new.

Would going over potholes affect it? I have the RS engine mounts and PSS-10, so the car setup is a bit tougher, but still...

I've finally managed to attach a pic of the shroud. There is some clear damage there.

It looks like the fan was possibly hitting the vanes in the shroud but It’s hard to know if it was before or after the fan blade started to separate.

Did anything get sucked in? Have you checked behind the fan housing or between cylinders of parts that don't belong there? Other than your blade parts?

^^This. While that shroud is out, I'd be looking closely at the top of the engine for ANYTHING deposited there. The damage to the shroud looks like it's after the blades let go. I can't tell from the pictures what the cause was.

Search for my alternator rebuild thread and have it rebuilt.

FYI,....its not interchangeable with the N/A version; one also needs the TT shroud to make it work.
Hi Steve,

So to use your Upgraded TT fan on a 3.6 NA you need to purchase a TT Fan Shroud? Is this all you need to fit it or is there more to it?
I'd like to purchase one from you!

thanks!

To use the 993TT (higher flow) fan on a naturally aspirated 3.6 engine, you need the TT fan ring and engine shroud.

So in my scenario I have a TPC supercharger that has a top engine shroud heater bypass. Will it still fit on the TT Engine shroud?

thanks again!

While I've not personally fitted a 964/993 with a supercharger, it should fit. You might ask the folks at TPC to see if they have done this upgrade (I hope they have since any forced induction needs it).

Most likely after - I didn't hear any suspicious sound before.

We have indeed looked for anything out of place, but everything seems ok. No extra debris, no loose anything.

Thanks to all for your kind advice.

Could have been much worse. Mine broke too. Fin broke off at the base, fell down and lodged and subsequent bent the crank pulley, broke all the belts, and sent a piece up through the tail. 2 blocks from a dealer but I didn't realize the extent of the damage (I just saw the belts at first) and was essentially stuck with having them do the work.

Steve et al,
Costly, but is the increased cfm airflow with the tt installation- fan and shroud worth it- better head cooling, better fan material, longevity?
Anybody done such in a na motor?

So today my fan blades broke. Three of them.
I was pulling on slightly wet asphalt and wheels slightly spinning and at a point a loud “STUUMP” and belt light on.
stopped immediately.

one piece of fin got stuck between shroud and fan.
cooling belt (all belts less than a year old) broken and with a kind of burnt look on a specific point as if the pulley continued to turn while the fan was stuck (because of the fin stuck) .
a little smoke in the cabin too.
pulleys seem a bit out of alignment.
Also, to me looking better at those fins it looks as though those were already on their way to break, since the central part was already black and not white as it should.

That sux. Probably Alternator Bearing went causing contact with the fan shroud.
