Default 2018 Cars Dream group buy for steering wheel recover

I have been talking Carsdream in Poland (http://carsdream.com/en/) to recover a few items and they have agreed to another group buy discount of 10% if we get 5 wheels orders. If we get 10 wheel orders there will be a 12% discount. Their email is info@carsdream.com if you want to get more info about their services and a custom quote. Prices below reflect retail prices without the discount.

Here is what they shared with me in terms of a price list and examples... Shipping estimate is 54 EUR/per wheel from Poland back to US. Extra for expedited service. You will be responsible for shipping your core to them. I have done some basic research and DHL economy service via Parcelmonkey.com with a 17x13x13 uhaul small moving box appears to be the most convenient and economical to ship your wheel from the US to Poland. If you want to save on shipping, I am willing to handle group shipment where we will consolidate several wheels to be shipped to Poland, as well as when they are returned to me I will reship them back to you like @nile13 did on the last group buy.

I also have a 996 3 spoke black steering wheel and airbag core available for re-wrap for $475. It is already sent to Cars Dream so all you have to do is place an order and you should have it before Christmas!

If you are interested please reply and PM me your name and I will contact you with instructions on the process.

Unfortunately, I had the opposite experience.

Hello everyone, good questions coming in.

1. Prices above are retail with no discount

2. USPS insured to ship your core to Poland is economical and convenient.

3. Here is a link to the previous group buy handled by @nile13

If there is enough of you would consider handling a bulk shipment back to the US and reship once stateside... to save even more.

Lots of pictures and happy rennlisters below!

Thanks!

I might send one more wheel in a month and a half when I get to Miami. I've had two recovered so far, love both.

If anyone needs an easy and really cheap (as in free) way to send Euros, let me know, I'll send an invite for the service I've ended u using. Saves $20-40 on a wire transfer.

PS. Andreas, what ended up happening with that wheel? I'm still upset about that one Especially given that mine worked out well and the 996 wheel has held up great for 7+ years now.

Good morning.

A few more updates

1. Alcantara is 10 EUR more. Prices above reflect leather
2. If we get 10 wheels, then a 12% discount
3. There is a the possibility we can ship all of the wheels together to Poland and back, where you ship me your wheel, I will then repackage all of the wheels into one large box and ship to them. On the return same idea where they ship me the wheels and and I repackage the wheels and ship to you. I think I can fit a wheel into a USPS large priority mail flat rate box which is $18.90 coast to coast. This option will take longer but will save more...

Thanks!

Samurai, pencil me in for now.

And, no, you can not ship the wheels in USPS flat rate Large box, unfortunately. They will not fit. The wheel is just too deep. I ended up using 12x12x12 boxes and shipping UPS. So a zip code will be needed to calculate shipping from a US location back to the final users.

BTW, for those with Cars Dream alcantara with a few years of actual use on it, how well does it hold up? Leather holds up great, I'm very curious how their alcantara does under real life conditions. Anyone?

A few years on both leather and alcantera, both have held up great based on 4 different wheels.

Thanks!

I'm seriously thinking of trying alcantara, but my hands are fairly oily and often dirty from carrying parts, so it might not be the right solution. Feels good, though. We shall see.

Hi Everyone,

I emailed carsdream for my own personal quote and I found out a few things that I would like to add.

For the thickening of the wheel, you have plenty of options as they have 2 and 3mm foam. They told me that they can also layer the foam for any combination of the above (anything from 2-6mm in thickness). I plan to go with the 3mm foam personally, as I want more of an oem sport steering wheel look, but plenty of options exist.

For leather colors, I have a graphite gray interior and they are checking availability for me. That said, he told me one square meter of original porsche leather costs 70eur, so if you have blue or natural brown or something else less common, they can order the original leather to match for a pretty reasonable additional cost imo.
