Porsche Driving Experience - Advice Needed
Looks like I might have an opportunity to do the Porsche Driving Experience in Atlanta this week, but I can’t decide which car would be the best to book. What would you choose and why?

I like the idea of mid vs. rear, gives me a sample of both 911 and Boxster.
911 GTS is appealing since it is the highest power non GT car and I get to try the PDK.
911 T sounds great too, I mean who doesn’t like a manual.
GT3 vs Turbo, sounds amazing, but more expensive and is the track long enough or would it just be frustrating in the higher powered cars?
Help!

Don't do a manual on that course. Not worth it. You only use 2 gears; but really 1 gear 90% of the lap.
I did a little of everything. Even the base boxster was a blast on that course. Launch control in the panamera turbo s was fun too.

I did a hybrid version of the Cayman vs 911S (All PDK) and a bit of the offroad course in the SUV as part of a corporate deal in Atlanta
The mid vs rear was fun and interesting (mostly on the skid pad vs short corners and launch control)
If I went back to Atlanta I would do the GTS - I agree with previous poster that it is a 2 gear course (short) so if you are curious about PDK then go GTS and have fun.
It is an experience not a driving school
have fun

I went with the base 718 Cayman course as it was the least expensive and I'm kinda cheap. It was a blast and felt a good bit faster than my '08 Cayman S. The sound of the PDK making perfect downshift blips had me giggling...
I really enjoyed the kick plate and polished surface skills, and wish I'd had more seat time. My instructor was great and a really nice guy. He didn't ask me much about my background (I've done a bunch of DE's but my driving skill are nothing special) before we went out. Our first station was launch control (which is a hoot!) with threshold braking at the end. When I braked to a stop after the first run he was quiet for just a second and then said: "You've done this before, haven't you?" Made my day!

Great advice - thanks everyone! I’m getting the impression that any of the experiences would be great, and it is going to be hard to go wrong. I think I’m going to choose the GTS.
Having never driven the 991 platform, it should be very interesting.

I didn’t get to drive, but was a passenger with pro driver doing hot laps in 991S on that course. The car was fast, so unless you’re a very capable driver, any more car than that would be tough to push too it’s limit. I would have liked to drive, but really enjoyed the experience anyway.

I had a great time at the Porsche Driving Experience Center in LA about a month ago. I chose a 991 Turbo which is the exact same car I own. I figured if was going to spend sometime with a professional driver I might as well learn just what my own car is capable of.... Up until taking the course I always thought that I pushed my car to at least some of it's limits. I was wrong!

Agree...drive the cars you think you will buy now and future....I compared the GT3 to Turbo....the turbo surprised me on the track but I still bought a GT3 thinking it was okay for me on the street and traded it 3 months later for a Turbo S but would not have if I didn't do the experience and also Birmingham events....the experience is just awesome and I think money well spent...

I don’t see myself trading my 993 for a 991 in the near future, but I am very curious to see how they drive. The GT3 is tempting, but I’m excited to try out the GTS. Maybe I’ll come back in the future and try GT3/Turbo or mid/rear.
