Finally able to post a pic! Just finished the luggage strap installation and took this lousy pic in the garage (It's a dreary, drizzley day outside). Although the mounting hardware slots are 1-1/2 inches wide, I chose to use 1-3/8 inch wide belts to allow for a little "play" to avoid chafing of the edges. If anyone is interested, I can give details of how to make the straps for the grand sum of $25.

^ Looks great! Nicely done.
The RSD is certainly on my "wish list" for someday.

Jim-
Go to WallyWorld...Look in the men's section for the belts. You'll find looooong (42 or 44 inch) black leather belts 1-3/8 inches wide with roller buckles for the grand sum of something like $10/ each. Cut each of the belts so you can center the buckles in the middle of the RSD but with enough extra (an inch as I recall) to fold through and under the forward bracket of the RSD. Punch a centered hole in the top and the folded-over end after wrapping through the bracket and secure with Nickel-plated "Chicago" screws obtained from Hobby Lobby or similar craft store. Secure the long remainder of the belt to the rear bracket in the same way you did for the front. You'll need to punch a lot of extra holes at 1-inch spacing to allow the belts to be secured as shown when there's no luggage. (Best to do this before you secure these in the car) Be sure to use the correct hole punch to obtain the same diameter that came with the belts. If my description isn't clear, just ask for more pics.

Certain routes in the San Francisco Bay Area I-80 and I-880, Los Angeles I-10 El Monte Bus Way (during peak hour) and San Diego I-5 San Ysidro requires three or more (3+) persons per vehicle to access the HOV lanes. Signs along the highway will specify the enforcement policy for each route. For San Francisco Bay Area ONLY, originally factory designed vehicles with a maximum two-seat occupancy may access the HOV(3+) lanes as long as there are two occupants in the vehicles.

2 seater
I have been commuting for decades in the Bay Area with 2 people in a 2 seater using the car pool lanes. Once, 25 years ago I got pulled over and ticketed in a 1986 Carrera for not having 3 passengers. I contested the ticket by mail with a photo of the rear seat delete and the ticket was tosses out by the judge.
I still use the car pool lane with my Boxster and my 96 993 with rear seat delete with no issues. There are signs now that say 2 passengers are ok in two seater and pickups...
