I agree it is a great FAQ Bill.
I would be willing to do something like that on my upcoming vacation if you all want me to. It is a very tedious process indeed and it already took me a few hours reading posts and archives like crazy...
I'm a bit challenged when it comes to putting up websites maybe you can all guide me with what you want to see.
On the other hand Robin's and E.J's sites are superb already and maybe a permanent link to their sites would be an alternative.

Danny, I was hoping for more support from rennlist as well. I sent an email but did not recieve a response. My first choice would be for it to be part of rennlist.
I'll update you guys in a few days on the software that looks most promising.
Jeff

As a new owner I really appreciate all the work you are willing to put in to help newbies like me! I have made frequent use of this forum as well as the "search" both before and especially after my purchase in September. The only problem with using search is it confirms what my wife has been telling me for years, I really don't have many original thoughts since the answer to all my questions are buried in the archives somewhere.
Thanks again!

As a new 993 owner, I can say that this would definately be helpful.
One suggestion on the format - I also have a bmw 525, and I have found the site http://www.bmwe34.net to have a good handle on this type of information about that car and it is easy to browse/search. Some good organization of the info is definately needed.

Danny, go directly to http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ul...c&f=3&t=006565 and copy EJ's post on 'how to use search' and paste it into your FAQ as item #1! (With EJ's permission, of course).
Shoot, that post should be nailed to the top of the board as a sticky admin post until... say...Christmas 2402?

You guys want me cut and paste thie whole thing here? It will end up at the bottom. Or I could email the code to Danny and let him post it via edit in his original post? Let me know what you want me to do.

Thanks for this. As a longtime lurker, I often use the search function. However, the answers to many of the questions change quite a bit over time, and updates would be incredibly useful and an easy way for newbies to interface with experienced owners....

I think a FAQ is an excellent idea, and I appreciate all the work that you've been doing; however, I think it's a very different mode of communication than this discussion board.
FAQ's and search engines are terrific tools, and I recommend that everyone use them; however, I for one don't mind if someone asks a question that's been asked 5 times or 100 times in the past. Things change. Yes, you can search or go to a FAQ for tire info, "first time driver on track" info, or whatever; however, new equipment becomes available, your personal experience changes...my answers to a 3.8 upgrade would be very different today than they would 2 weeks after I got the upgrade, and most important, new people come to Rennlist that can offer different info and new ideas.
Is it that big a deal to answer a question that's been asked in the past? Plus you don't have to answer at all if you don't feel like it.
I really like the idea of a FAQ as long as it's still OK for someone to ask, for the zillionth time, "how is driving a tiptronic vs. a manual".

BTW...get the manual.

As stated above from others, I too thank you for your guys' effort.
I've already started down a road with my first P-car (1991 944S2) and am already plotting and scheming on how to get myself a early basic 993. So your work here is not invain. It proves invaluable for most of us.
There is simply a wealth of information that you guys are trying to condinse for people like me. And once again I thank you!
