A rare opportunity!
So, an opportunity has presented itself to me in the form of a 97 Carrera with 21,600 miles on the clock in guards red over black. The only un-original item on the car is the turbo twist rims. All maintenance up to date but tires are aging. 2nd owner and has had it since 2000. He is a meticulous owner as I have seen the car and have driven probably 500 of the 21,600 miles. Big question is how much do I offer? The other and more crazy twist is this.... wait for it...it's my brothers car! No damage history.

I'm 100% sure no one on Rennlist knows your brother or all the intricacies of your relationship with him as well as you do, so no one here will be able to give you any advice on how best to buy a car off your brother and at what price. If you two are super close and he doesn't need every nickel, he'll do you a solid on the price. If you two aren't close or money is tight with him, he probably won't.
Good luck

He's gonna drive 500 of the next 21,000, so he should feel good about giving a discount. Family discount should be about 20% off market. Stays in the family, and you can sell it back to him for 20% off the future market value.

Point out to him there is a brother discount and offer him $35K

All kidding aside, both buyer and seller need to be comfortable with the agreed-upon price because there could be repercussions in the future. For example, say you purchased it for $70K and, after a year, you decided to sell or had a situation that made you need to sell...at $85K. Would there be "sour grapes"? No matter what, I would not purchase it for any less than a dealer's trade-in value. That might be a way to arrive at a price: Get about 3 offers from dealers and average.

I assume it is a C2. In perfect condition and unmolested as you say, with those miles it would sell for $70 ‘ish on the open retail market. For purposes of options what was the MSRP new?

Thank guys for all the feedback, I'm going to pay whatever he's comfortable parting with it for. It's a great example, will get the vin and maybe some can post the build sheet. Will let you all know how it goes.

I have pretty much the same car. 97 C2 couple that just hit 22k miles over the weekend. Mine has hollow spoke 18" twists and a Euro turbo front bumper as well as a few minor aesthetic bits like oval tips and Ruf pedals. I also replaced the original stereo with a Porsche classic radio and installed Xpel film. I toyed with the idea of selling and looking for a Wideboby but people are asking stupid money for low mileage examples that equal mine. I'd say the value of your brother's car should be somewhere in the 80's because minty low mileage examples are really hard to come by. Of course he should give you some kind of a deal! Good luck.
