Cool Howdy all y'all

I guess it's time to de-lurk and introduce myself to the list. As a life-long 911 fan I was excited to be introduced to this list this past summer by a friend who owns a C4S and races a 964 turbo.

While I have spent some time behind the wheel of an '88 Carrera, a '92 C2 and a '96 C4S, I have not yet had the opportunity to call one my own.
However, I have been lucky enough to enjoy track time on my motorcycle, and have auto-x'd a 3-series Bimmer and a Miata.

Life is short and I'm tired of waiting for this damn tech downturn to end, so it's time to get the car I've been waiting too long to have. I am looking for a C2S or C4S "driver", meaning a car in perfect mechanical condition, but normal cosmetic wear is OK. Silver or Arena Red only, any interior color OK other than tan. No Tip. I appreciate any leads!

OK, I'll make a newbie pledge right here and now not to start any of the following threads: What are the best tires? What pressure should I use? What's the best oil? How do I check my oil level? Why does the guage move around while driving? Is it OK to mix tire brands? What's the best wax? Is a 993 better than a Z06 or NSX? What's the best cup holder?

Ahhh, glad that's out of my system. I feel better.

Despite a whole shelf of various Porsche books and years worth of Excellence, I have learned a tremendous amount in a short time on this board and look forward to participating. (Yes, I am a paid member)

Thanks,
--Pete

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Yes, I'm happy to see quite a few bikes mentioned here. I guess performance is addicting regardless the number of wheels. It is interesting, though, to get on the same track with a bike and then a car, different lines through the turns and rev match vs. double clutch downshifts, it's always a bit strange for the first few laps.

Peter,

Most excellent post/intro! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I do have to wonder, in retrospect, if your post's timely appearance just prior to B-Line's 'what are the best tires' thread had anything to do with the lack of patience displayed with him

Ahhh yessss,

Another Miata boy. Doesn't matter that everyone calls them hairdresser cars--- I love them, have owned two, and will get one again as soon as finance permits. Thats what I call bang for the buck...

Oh, hang on, I am on the 993 board.....I better stop talking now.

Hey, if I stirred any pot it was purely a coincidence!

For me it's easier and faster to just search an archive or the web than post a question. But then again I'm a computer geek, and I do understand that's not true for everyone.

Hey Harold,

Don't worry, it takes a REAL MAN (like us, of course) to feel secure driving a Miata, which, let's face it, is probably just one step behind a VW convertible on the chick car scale.

Let's see, it's a very light car with incredible road feel, just enough engine for the chassis, displays neutral to mild oversteer, is very commonly raced and easily beats much more powerful cars around the track if it's twisty enough. In other words, it roughly has the dynamics of an early 911. Except it's stone reliable, has one of the best gearboxes this side of a Formula Ford, and an older one in great shape costs about $5K. If you break it, just throw it away and get a new one.

In other words, it's the perfect beater car for days or places you don't want to take the p-car. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Okay, I just have to copy over my post from the 'Real Men drive Boxsters' thread on the Boxster board:

This thread reminds me that for a year my wife & I had a red 2000 Miata gathering dust in the garage. I'd bought it for her as a graduation present/weekend fun car, and the sucker... just... gathered dust. In a year it accumulated a whopping 3,000 miles! Most of those were me taking it out to blow the dust off & enjoy what was a really, really, fantastic-driving car.

Now, plenty of people call it a chick car; and I tend to agree, but, dammit, they're such GREAT driver's cars, I didn't care! But here's where I really showed the world what a Real Man I was: I drove it around in broad daylight, top down, *despite* the presence of my wife's vanity plate:

Damn Robert, how do you walk with cojones that size?

I actually traded in a '67 Convertible deVille for the Miata (don't laugh, it was a tow car). I guess I could have kept the Caddy and just mounted the Miata as a lifeboat, but that would have interfered with the hitch.

And you were able to throw away all your Dramamine after selling the Caddy, too!
