Carpet or mats? I'm so confused
I had an interesting exchange with Cocomats.com. They tell me the mats I have are not mats, they are part of the carpet kit because they have grommets. I've attached a picture of my current mats and the grommet.
Underneath those mats is sound deadening and the floorboard. No carpet. So maybe Cocomats has a point.
Lloyd mats do have the grommets, so are they not really mats?
Am I missing a piece of carpet?!?

What you have - with the logo and the grommet - are mats as far as I can tell.
As for why you don't have the thin carpet beneath them, maybe it was damaged or ripped out by a PO?
The Coco's, are mats. They will sit on the factory carpet (which you may be missing) and do not need a grommet to hold in place since they are so heavy/thick.
I have a set in the 993 and they stay in place fine.
In your application, you may just need some dynamat or similar to fill out any valleys beneath. Maybe post a pic of what's under your mats?
Cheers

Suncoast sells the P floor carpets for left and right sides. The carpet or mat that goes over the sound deadening material like the ones it looks like are missing from your car. All colors are available. I think they are like $200 per side if I recall. The cocoa mats would go on top of these.

The coco mats can also go right on top of your sound deadening. They can put grommets in them also. I pushed them to install them in Furstil mats they were making for me. They did not want to claiming that the mats would be too thick to work with the plastic button. That was not the case, at least with Furstil, the grommets worked perfectly. BTW the mats are super high quality.

+993 to what Rich said. I got the wool mats in Light Calico and they are a perfect complement for the original Cashmere interior. Great people to work with, too. PCA Executive Director Vu Nguyen visited their factory and made a video, which you can view on youtube.

The carpet is a layer above the rubber floor insulation. It is cut to shape. Matts can be added over the top of the carpet and are held in place with the screw fasteners.
In the OP's case the carpet may have been discarded for any number of reasons and so is no longer present. The carpet on the driver's side has a custom fit part that fits under the peddles and includes a smooth vinyl skid section.

World Upholstery sells carpet sets using the proper OEM German materials. I did my whole car with their stuff, highly recommended. I'd expect they'd sell just the floor mat components of the set. I never even bothered to install mine-- what's the point? If you use a floor mat, you can't even tell if the wool carpet piece is there underneath.
