Default Help needed with varioram solenoids/leads

Hi - I've recently changed the distributor belt, caps, rotors, plugs, leads and four valve cover gaskets.

I'm not 100% sure on the leads for the varioram solenoids situated below the left hand intakes. I've done a lot of searching but haven't quite been able to find what I am looking for.

I did find this "The connector with the green/white and red/white wires goes to the varioram solenoid/actuator whilst the connector with the grey/white and red/white connector goes to the resonance flap solenoid/actuator."

I found this on a thread from 2009 - https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...nnections.html

Question: Which solenoid is which - is the one nearest to the front of the car the varioram solenoid/actuator?

TIA

yes, the front-most solenoid controls the varioram actuators & the rear goes to the resonance flap - double check by following the vacuum hoses, there should be a tee-fitting just behind the front solenoid with a line running up to the driver's side VR actuator.

Thank you ToSi, nine9six and Bill.

I did have the connections correct now I won't have to pull it all apart again to check it. I must say, new caps, rotors, plugs and leads have made a big difference according to the seat of the pants dyno, however I'm not getting that surge people talk about at around 4,500RPM. Can anyone recommend a troubleshooting procedure to check the varioram is operating as it should?

It could be a variety of things. I replaced #4 (993 110 573 00) in the 1st diagram above that nine9six posted because it was obviously collapsed but it did not resolve my issue. Its located on the tree on the driver side of the engine behind the blower, pretty easy to see without disassembly. Ultimately my issue was a vacuum leak in the same vicinity which was also causing the flaps behind the dashboard to close under acceleration. If thats another symptom you're experiencing then that will narrow the search for you. I found it weird that the two things were related but turns out they are.

Here is a thread that was helpful for me describing some diagnosing of issues, plus it has links to other threads: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...t-working.html

Any chance you can get your hands on a Durametric cable? It dose some interrogation of the varioram system. I finally picked one up after owning the csr for 9 years, and discovered I have an error code related to the varioram. More on the diagnosis and repair when i get time to check it out.

I replaced #4 (993 110 573 00) some time ago and checked it again when I had everything apart. It's good. I run a Mac so the Durametric is not an option. Thanks for the ideas - keep them coming.

You should hear the actuators click as they cycle through their self test when you first key on (but not start). If not, check for loss of vacuum. Good tips in the linked thread above, the actuator diaphragms are known to fail. Use a hand held vacuum pump to test them, don't forget the one on the hvac recirculation flap behind the dash.
