Default Engine restoration hardware

I've recently disassembled my engine on my '96 993 C4 in the effort of a rebuild. Unfortunately a lot of the external engine hardware (bolts, nuts, etc) have seen better days. My goal is a very clean restoration and some of the fasteners are chewed up / corroaded etc. Before, I got through the PET and write down every nut and bolt and order through Sunset/Pelican, is there a better way to go about this? Is there a comprehensive list, or a vendor that sells a complete hardware kit? Any advice is appreciated.
Mike

Hi Mike,

I can commiserate with you on the task of ordering all new engine fasteners,.....I've done that too many times to recount.

Nowadays, we simply take all the hardware and send it off to be cleaned and re-plated and that makes the rebuilt engine look just like new.

Jeez, never thought I would see the word "commiserate" on rennlist. Pretty upscale word in my world. Perhaps I should read more.

i think our friend Steve is spending to much time reading and not enough time in the shed, perhaps I should send him some more heads?

Just did this for the resto on wife’s 79 SC, much easier to send it out than spend many hours on DIY zinc electroplating which I did for my 993 resto, what a PITA.

But first, be sure to figure out a way to keep track of which parts are which, unless you’re Steve Weiner and have done this so much you could figure out what’s what with one eye tied behind your back.. I took pics with labels indicating which fasters were for what application.

Can anyone share recommended plating companies to send hardware and such out?

Well, I use Wespen Industries here in Calgary. But that probably won’t help you in Washington. Maybe try google and if you have more than one match in your vicinity, call around or bring a sample and ask for quotes from a couple... that’s what I did.

This would be a great "cottage industry" for some enterprising soul. If you were into anything FoMoCo (Ford), there's AMK. https://www.amkproducts.com/ They stock complete kits for everything to put together a complete car, engine or individual components. He started from scratch and is now the "go to" source for concours restoration hardware.

I replaced most all hardware on my 993 with ARP 12 point black oxide metric screws and washers.

What did you coat them with to keep them from rusting?

Default Porsche hardware kits

Jon from EBS Racing here. I noticed the thread on hardware kits. We've done hardware kits for just about any air cooled 911. Engine hardware kits, sheet metal hardware kits, exhaust hardware kits, nylock nuts & washer kits, etc. We include the hardware kits with our Master Engine Rebuild Kits or you can order the hardware kits separately. Also we are the largest distributor of ARP fasteners for Porsche applications...head stud kits, case stud kits, rod nuts & bolts, flywheel bolts, etc. Email me a list of what your looking for and I'll get back to you quickly with a price quote.

Thanks!
