High-pitched metallic grinding sound coming from front driver's side brakes
The sound is a fairly high-pitched, metallic grinding sound that only comes when almost at a full-stop on light application of the brakes. I started hearing this two months ago after new wheel carriers were installed and the brakes were taken off the car for that procedure. Plenty of pad left. Did two track days as well and the sound was there before and after. I didn't go as far as actually removing the pads yet as I don't really know what to look for, but I did try my best to get rid of dust and debris with an air compressor. Thoughts on this?

Disk Brakes are very noisy. Engineers try to design the pad and caliper as a unit so most of the noise is outside of the audio spectrum. There are several variables involved that finding the root cause can be difficult. My experience is that pad friction formula, how clean the brakes are, rotor wear, not using the brake noise clips when installing the pads can all influence noise. The cause of the sound will not impact brake performance however if you hear or feel a low frequency grinding sound, that is an indication of brake friction material wear-out or failure.

In light of having replaced the wheel carrier, I would also check the wheel bearings as at times they can get noisy near failure. In some cases, the hub can get a little warm and when indicating a problem. I have never pulled a wheel hub off a 993 but it may be advisable to inspect the bearings once the brakes have been ruled out.

Ah, read too quickly, i vote for wheel bearing. Unless something utterly stupid like the wheel/rotor is making contact with a metal surface or the new carrier. you need to jack up the offending wheel and take a look and spin it.

Heat shield, ahh. Will take a look for that then. It does sound a little... tinny? Like a thinner metal vibrating.
Wheel bearings are brand new.

“Tinney” sounding is not any bearing. I’d say that something (backing plate of rotor, bent tab on pad?) was misaligned while carriers were being replaced. Hopefully, whatever is scraping, is not/has not been destroying anything/destroyed.

I just removed the shields on my C2S upon advice of my trusted mechanic. The powder coating had disintegrated, and they were a mess doing more harm than good. If you keep the car cleaned properly, you won’t miss them.
