As it turns out, he's right...

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU9936SBASE.html

(To clarify, I was surprised to find this. I thought the OP's price was a good one.)

OK, i see that. It also says replacement, not oem. Looking at the Suncoast picture it is different than oem. I checked a few other threads and thought $250 was a fair price...

The Suncoast part says Genuine Porsche, which is OEM.

I replaced the ****+boot in my C4S with the OEM replacement from Suncoast, but it was closer to $400. If I was doing it again, I'd simply re-wrap my used ****. I had one redone by Carsdream. It took a long time to get back, but it looked great.

Standard Shift **** - 993 (C2)
Genuine Porsche Shift ****
Replacement 6 speed shift **** and boot.

Above is from the Suncoast page, not sure what the difference is between genuine and replacement is, but the insert looks a different in the picture than oem and the leather appears to have a different texture..

So whatever, if someone wants this they can make me an offer....not trying to rip anybody off just thought someone might want this to replace their worn one.

C4 are different and more expensive which explains why the C4S one was more.

As a rough guide, in the UK the C2 ones are about £150 and the C4 ones about £210, these are brand new from a Porsche dealer

Brent, you need to post a price per forum rules. You can always "or best offer" etc.

And everyone else please respect that price discussion is not acceptable in a for sale thread. You can PM the OP, start your own thread on what the price should be for a shift know/boot, etc.

I hate to be "that guy," but...

No. A "genuine" part should come in a Porsche box or at least have a Porsche sticker on the bag or something. These are the parts you get from a dealership, like Suncoast. OEM, or "original equipment manufacturer" parts are parts made by the same manufacturer that built the part that Porsche used during production. The only difference between the genuine Porsche part and the OEM part is the box it comes in. And because these parts are marketed under the manufacturer's name, and not Porsche's, they are cheaper.

Again, I hate to be "that guy," but... The way I understand it is if you post something for sale in the 993 (or other model) subforum, it's up for commentary from the peanut gallery. However if you post it in the Member-to-member FS forum or just the plain ol' FS forum, criticism is a no-no. Maybe things have changed in the past few years, but when this has come up here in the past, this is the way I remember it shaking out.

Mike,

Good info on OEM versus genuine parts.

If someone is selling something, no matter where it's posted, classified or elsewhere, people need to refrain from crapping in the thread about this or that comment. It's become really tiresome for many people trying to sell their stuff.

It's fine, however, to start a thread discussing that weird, puke green color on a car or how the price of a certain part is just too high.

I'll also state that there has been an increase in the general nastiness, uncivility and trolling of the various forums. Anyone who has ventured into the 991 board knows that there were continual, trolling posts made by various people regarding the NA flat six of the 991.1 versus the turbo four of the 991.2. There is now a near-zero tolerance for that nonsense and, overall, trolling users/members will be asked to show the camaraderie and friendliness upon which this site was created.

Simply put, everyone needs to remember that we're all car enthusiasts who are here to learn, be part of the community and have a good time.

Thanks Mark. I used to be a somewhat active member of this community when I still owned my 993. I came here to sell what I thought a member of this community would like to have to replace their worn out shifter for what I thought was a fair price. This is the last part of my old 993 that I have, it is an "original" part in like new condition, not a reproduction. I thought that might matter for someone. Was just trying to spread back some of the great advice I have received here over the years.
