Default 993 size comparison beside a GTI.

Hi all i am new to Rennlist have owned 11 porsches over 47 yrs recently bought a 1998 s2. I parked beside my sons 2015 GTI and was amazed at how small the 993 was beside it which by all means i liked my last 911 was a 1979 911 SC coupe pretty much the same size body that was many years ago because children came into my life. Well anyways glad to be back behind the wheel of a car that is a true thrill to drive. This forum is assume thank you to all who help other Porsche owners with all your wisdom and knowledge.

Park almost any car next to the same model two generations newer and you will probably get the same reaction. Recently parked my 2004 Passat next to a newer one, my how it has grown ! The new Jettas are the size of my car. Welcome!

Almost no one weighed 300 pounds 25 years ago either. Our society has gotten "larger" and our appliances have followed suit

I know neither of these apply to the original post, but I just love how tiny the 917 is compared to diminutive 914, showing how easy it is to lose sight of the perspective of size.

Here's my garage.

The 993 feels tiny compared to the GTI - and the MK7 is even bigger.

Yes, awesome photo!

I was lucky enough to be a part-time docent a few years back for an exhibit at the NC Museum of Art called "Porsche by Design". Seeing the Type 804, 908, 917K, and 962 in person was an amazing experience, and pretty much the first thing everyone noticed is just how small those cars are!

Type 804

908

962

917K

I was saying the same thing not long ago. We pulled up to a stoplight behind a new boxster and a mid 2000s Toyota Avalon. The 2 seater boxster was larger(albeit lower) than the 4 door family car.

Wow wow wow, Mark...I never realized! Great re-alignment in perspective!
Yessiree, whenever my 993 (or my SC) is parked next to even a "small" car like a Mini or Bug, I can't get over how large these "little" cars have become ...crazy, IMHO!

Interesting, as I've been considering the 2018 VW Golf R (Mk7.5) since I need a car for occasional winter use and hauling bike around (I'd put a hitch-mounted rack on the VW).

Looks like the following if Wikipedia is to be believed:
Length: VW @ 168" vs. 993 @ 167.7"
Width: VW @ 71" vs. 993 @ 68.3"
Height: VW @ 57" vs. 993 @ 51.8"
