Warning chime
Anybody disconnected the irritating warning chime?

I can't believe that every 993 owner out there can tolerate that nagging and painfully annoying warning chime.
I would love to know how to kill it. Any assassins done this? Help much appreciated. |
Is this the high-pitched 'beeeeeep' that one hears occasionally? I often hear it within 30 mins of driving but there are no warning lights on etc. and I have checked all the vitals so I just keep driving.
Presuming that it is the same thing, why does it go off in the first place... and, to get back to Tom's original q, how the hell can it be killed? Thanks all... |
I guess nobody (me included) really bother by it... :)
You can buckle up first THEN start the ignition, this way you only see the light but NO SOUND... ;) |
The only time I hear a warning chime is when the lights are on and I open the door. Sorry cant help.
|
Will, the high pitched beep youre talking about. Its not the noise that is from motors on the ventilation system is it, which shouldnt be high pitched anyway.

sounds to me like another DIY project for me. I agree, its pretty rash sounding. I am going to look into a more dainty chime from another type of car to transplant. Maybe I can make a kit of it?
What would be the demand for this type of gadget? The hardest part of prokects like this is finding the chime module itself :) Chris |
I just get a buzzing noise when the door is open with the lights on.
Is the chime a later model thing? '94 C2 Tito. |
Come to think of it Tito, its not really a chime but a high pitched irritating beep
|
Phew !
For a moment I thought that '94 were vastly inferior to the rest of the clan. :D Tito. Are you coming tonight? |
Depends on how important the vario is to you...
Sorry mate, I dont think I'm gonna be able to make it. Which is a pity 'cause the weather is absolutely beautiful out there. |

Tom, did you figure anything out yet? in most german cars, the door/headlight/seatbelt/whatever chime is usually just a relay. mine was loud. i just put masking tape over the relay's speaker and now it's very quiet. but i can still hear it. you might be able to just yank it. on vw's you can, but i haven't tried my car... |
Pull out the catalytic converters, amp your stereo. That should fix that pesky noise... :D
|
Sorry about not getting back to this... I lost the thread.
The beep I get is definately made by a speaker (i.e. not motor noises) and it occurs when driving and without the stereo on or anything else. High-pitched and held for about a second. No lights flash or anythng else. Any ideas greatly appreciated. (And it's not my mobile phone ;) ) |
