Arrow 18" Wheels? This may be a good choice (pics)

Hey there all. I just purchased a new set of wheels (trying to get a particular "look" from the car) and wanted to post some small photos:

These are factory '01 "Sport Classic II" wheels, with 265/35/18 rears & 225/40 fronts.

I checked with our hero Viken on the weight of each before I bought (cant add too much ya know).

All is good.

I know the photos are low quality, but... What ya think?

To quote Austin Powers, "looks tight!"

Car looks excellent! I have the same MY with turbo twists. Looks like you have the M030 suspension, or coilovers?

Nice ride.

Thank you Sam.

My car is set up with H&R springs on the factory perches. Its low, looks great, rides nice.

I was going to go with the factory "tech" wheels like yours, but I have always liked this Fikse/Kinesis look too, so I took the plunge when I found these.

Yeah Baby yeah!

Nice clean look! Any need to roll the fenders?

Cool

David,

It is a "clean look." That is a very good way to describe it.

No need for any fender roll. Plenty of room for these 18x10's (ET65) in back. And I have full turn lock to lock up front as well.

I see why they are called "Sport Classics." As they are both "Sporty" & "Classy" all in one.

Maybe the valet will park my car out front now!

I also like the "993" badge. I took off the "Carrera" last week. I should replace with a "Type R" badge. I was thinking the more "R"s the better! Maybe the letters off the Honda CBR900 "RR".

I have 285s in the rear with an H&R/M030 setup and no clearance problems.

MB,
Maybe it's the photos...those wheels look BIG. Are you sure they're not 19"?
Car looks great BTW.

Cool

PK,

I had a guy email personally & say the same thing. He was like "They look like TWENTYS!"

Might just be the angle of the shot.

Cool though that I got the look of 19's on an 18" budget!

Thanks for the kind words.

Nice MB!

And good timing, I'll pick (used) set of those tomorrow! (same sizes, wheels also, and my car is G. Red too!)

I like BBS etc. deep dish little better than these but with these, you'll get the BBS/Race look with Porsche OEM wheels! And they look better than I thought!

How much do they weight?

I was actually thinking of selling them immediately because I suddenly realized that I 'need' PSS-9s & monoballs and my budget can't fit them all (anyone interested in H&R springs?), but now I don't know... They look sooo good!

P.S. Where did you get that "993" badge?

Exclamation

Finn,

Yeah man, these are cool thank you.

I know what you mean about the deeper dish, but there is something to be said for wheels right out of the Porsche box.

Weight? Front was 23 Rear was 27+. The tire I got for them is lighter than the tire I had on the 17's, so the combo is only marginally more weight then the 17's, actually a very slight increase considering the larger footprint you gain.

As for the 993 badge. I made that myself out of the factory Porsche parts bin!

Thanks man!

those wheels are drop dead gorgeous.

how do those weights compare to other 18" wheels such as the fikses or BBS LM's? just curious.

i would like to upgrade, too, but i do not want to increase the unsprung weight of the car.

thanks,

Thumbs up

Cokey,

Weight weighed heavy on my mind too. Believe me, it was/is very important to me.

If weight is absolutely # 1 though, then the 17 inch cups are very hard to beat. They are fabulous. However, with factory stuff, you can get close w/ the hollow technology 18 inchers.

As far as aftermarket wheels. There is just no free lunch for me. Sure I could have gotten a wheel that was 2 pounds lighter than my Sport Classics in front, and 5 pounds lighter in rear (by going aftermarket), but the cost was overwhelming ($2500 - $4000 for JUST wheels).

BTW: Comparable BBS LM's were a bit heavier, Kinesis a bit lighter.

I caved.

Again, in comparison to my old 17's w/ tires, and these new 18's with tires. I am looking at only a few pounds up per wheel personally. That fell within my acceptable range (it is a small range).

I kicked LOTS of wheels out for just being TOO HEAVY (like 29 pounds for the front EACH wheel! NO way!).

These wheels are a good choice & have the Porsche quality that I like.

Net with my combo= 2+ pounds more per wheel front & just under 5 pounds more per rear wheel.

Thanks for the post & the compliments!

Michael,

Looks very nice, especially since there's no spoiler to break up that beautiful sloping rear....the cars skin looks like it's stretched tight over the wheels, very sinister.

What's on the center cap?

later,

amir
