Gifted an old Alpine 7385 - non-HiFi car and this head unit needs an amp.
Hello Friends!
I have just been gifted an old Alpine 7385. I want to install it on my non-HiFi 993, but it needs an amp, which my car does not have.
What would be the simplest/easiest way of getting this thing running on my machine?
I know it fits, i went through all the to-do of taking the contintental Radio out and realizing too late about my need for an Amp.
I am not an audiophile, but i do like the old school alpine green look, so im hoping someone here can help.
Thanks!

If you have a non-hifi car, I don't think you need an amp. You'll just need to get a proper adapter or wiring harness to connect the new stereo. I just removed an alpine and replaced with a Continental on my non-hifi car and never saw or needed to fuss with an amp.

I thought that too! I replaced my stock unit with a continental a few years ago, and no amp was required.
However! the Alpine 7385, according to the manual --> "Your 7385 is a tuner/deck. To Operate it, a power amplifier is required"
I got all the way finished mounting this thing, before I realized that!
Now I gotta figure out how to add an amp to my setup, and was looking for advice/simple options on how to do that.
Thanks for your reply!

Had an Alpine back in the early 80's with a Corvette I owned - it was a great.
Back then, pre radio code days, it cam with a Benzi Box, you actually pulled the radio out of the dash when you parked the car.
Car radio theft was rampant - tons of BMW and Porsche cars had radios stolen which were easy sells on the black market.

I have a newer cd removable face unit with a very crude iPod hookup with 30 pin plug. It’s all on its last leg due to constant use but I love it all.

That is extremely cool! I love that era of Alpine equipment. The fact that this requires an external amplifier likely means it was a top end unit of the time. If you see my thread about replacing the Nokia amplifier with an Alpine DSP/Amplifier, it may give you an idea of where you could fit an amplifier. However, since I have an HiFi equipped car, all of the wiring was there already. In your case, it would mean you'd need to run the wires that goto the speakers from behind the headunit to where the amplifier will go, and then run power and ground through the firewall to the amplifier and an RCA patch cord from headunit to the amplifier.
