Aftermarket retrofits are not legal in the USA, but they are rarely checked or fined.

Did you buy the high beam splitters too? I didn't realize I needed those and had to go back to Retrofit to order them.

As I understood from this thread, that is all i need, unless I want BOTH highbeam lights on simultaneously. otherwise, the Retrofit is both low/high beam.

Please someone clarify/correct me if I misunderstood...

Cheers

oh, ok, thank you.

I also think i may want both, but these DYI electrical projects are new to me, and i felt adding the splitter was a little too much on my plate for now...

so the projectors arrived today (they shipped REALLY fast! Kudos To Retrofit):

So, do I really have to disconnect the battery for this project?
Hate to have to deal with the radio code, but i guess the alternative may be lethal, or at least painful...?

No, just remove the headlight assemblies and bring them into the house to work on.

Check out theretrofitsource.com now, instead of xenon, you can purchase Morimoto LED projectors. Little bit more expensive but latest technology.
I was thinking about it but my setup with 4x55w ballasts just puts out twice as much light.

thank you for the suggestion, but as the pictures above show, it may be a lottle too late for that

plus i guess i feel better that xenon was an upgrade available in 1997. I am trying ti upgrade my car with options available then, such as the hard back seats, the TT wing, the hollow spoke wheels, the xenon lights...

cheers!

Yeah I'm guessing it was Bentley's attorneys that made them add the "disconnect the battery" BS to their YouTube DYI.

Ok, so the rights upgrade is done. I returned the pdo into the car and the low beam tore light in the Retrofit projector looks great. However, when i activate the high-beam only the OEM works...
Im sorry but i was under the impression the result would be the other way around... i would have a tore light in the projector that worked both as low and high beam and i would lose the OEM high beam function.

the only thing I can think of is that the Retrofit projector does come with a separate cable for the high beam that i did not connect. Was I supposed to? And to what?

Thank you guys, and im sorry, just not enough experience...

cheers!

There is a socket connector on the (rearview) upper left side that attaches to a harness. The harness is plugged into the high beam splitter wires, with one side to the wires from the high beam bulb connection from the factory wires.

When the high beam is actuated, the Morimoto projectors raise a solenoid lens over the hid bulb.
