Default It's that time of year again! Stabil or Not

So comes a time when Winter is starting to set in and time to park the 993. Every year I use Stabil in my Tank and fill her up. I might get her out a few times if the weather cooperates but pretty much after November that's it until end of March / April up here in the NE.

So the question is ...... Do all of you usually use Stabil in your tanks until Spring or no? Some say the new gasolines don't need it if only storing 6 - 9 months. Thoughts?

I use Stabil 12 months a year to negate the Ethanol. And yes... she is hot!

I run only ethanol-free premium and use Stabil only in the winter months. My neighbor believes that Seafoam is superior to Stabil, but I have not used it in my Porsches, but I have in my lawn equipment.

I put stabil in a close to empty tank then fill up for my final few drives so it is distributed around the fuel system then when its ready for hibernation I add more stabil and put it away where ever the tank level is. In the spring my first drive is for a fill up with fresh fuel. I keep my car in a climate controlled garage. If your keeping it in a outdoor space or unheated garage I'd change my thinking maybe filling up the tank to the brim as you have been.

I do one final fill-up with Sta-Bil at the end of the season. I don't run the car again until the spring. On my first spring fill-up, I add a bottle of Techron.

I think I wrote this in other posts.

Because of ethanol every tank gets Star Tron
http://www.starbrite.com/item/star-t...ategory_id=699

Every time it goes in the garage even for a week or longer I plug in https://tecmate.com/products/optimate5v/

I have 13 or so motorcycles I play with fuel and batteries a lot. I run non-ethanol race gas in the bikes but still use Star Tron. I only buy race fuel because I can't get it non-ethanol fuel. Most race gas has tons of ethanol in it. That gas is good for 5 years if you don't open the can. Once you open the can it's only good for 2 years. Once the fuel goes into a vented gas tank its starts to turn. I use a few brands bust mostly VP vintage. The best and most cheapest for that kind of fuel is aviation fuel, from what I hear it does not turn. If your lucky to live near a small airfield that sells to the public its the best. VP and other fuel stations are popping up more and more.

If you do both of these and check your tires often you will tend to be trouble free year round from those issues.

I don't put many miles on the 993 throughout the winter but I still look for excuses to drive it when it's dry out and fully heat and circulate the fuel and oil and give the mechanicals some exercise. I don't use Stabil and don't fill up the gas tank. Instead, I keep the tank around half full and keep adding fresh gas as needed. The garage is heated, btw. This seems to have worked well over the last decade or so. I think it's good to either exercise the car regularly or let it sit tight completely.

No stabil for last 2 winters just a trickle charger.. I drive on weekends when the roads are clear and just keep adding fresh gas.

I am in NE as well and start adding Stabil to the tank in Nov as well. Never know when the weather will change and the 993 will be cooped up in the garage until spring or longer. In cannot hurt anything.

I will add some Stabil Ethanol formula but don't worry too much about keeping it full. The tank is plastic so condensation and rust aren't much of an issue. The '88 is another story. Hey, there's probably another good month of driving left, what's the rush? My car runs great in the colder air.

What are the advantages of Marine vs Non Marine Formula?
