Not as uncommon as you would think. Title washing has been a serious issue for many many years and it doesn't always show up on Carfax.

So what was the extent of damage, to cause Ins. to total it?
It looks as though Stevens Creek was the main dealer involved at time of collision. They may have the story of what occurred, how bad, and what was actually done to rebuild it.

Its crazy that a car totaled in 96 when the values were high could have a clean title now. Quite scary actually. These are the "used car dealers" we've all been warned about.


Wonder if this is the same shady guy who keeps hounding me to sell him my car? Same area code and prefix. Looks like he only sells stuff on rennlist and does not contribute/participate in other discussions. Just a FYI to those that get PM's from unsolicited parties.

I believe that car gurus has classified it as "salvage". I first found it there and stopped being interested immediately thereafter.
