Default Yet another . . . cab roof question

Hi all. Have a '96 C4 Cab (2nd owner). 39k miles (baby)

Have used the electric roof for the last two summers with no issue.
In the last few weeks, the alignment seems to be off as it is not catching the front servos to do the final closure. After 5 or 6 tries it will catch (but using the roof that way makes me very nervous I will break it).

I saw this post regarding the alignment nuts:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...alignment.html

I am NOT a great DIY person, but willing to try (the more idiot proof the better).

Two questions:
1 - How to remove the rear carpeted quarter panel? I found two screws (one toward the rear seat back, the other more central) and there are the four screws for the rear speaker. Couldn't seem to remove it easily from there however. I read another post about rotating the panel around a central attachment point, but couldn't quite follow that.

2 - Once I get it off, in what direction do the adjustment nuts get rotated to pull the roof back a hair?

Thanks for the help!

The panels have a round plug that covers the bolt you need to loosen. Just pry the cap of and use a socket wrench to loosen the bolt about 1/2 turn on both sides. When the top is unlatched it will fold back manually.
In manual mode there is no latch to hold the top from bouncing while driving. Good to use the canvas boot when the top is down.
Sounds like the gear is stripped on the latch motors. Pelican sells new gears.

Default Cab Top

Whenever I hear "my top won't latch", I remember my agonies over my top not latching and not closing on an intermittent basis.
There are lots of possibilities, but....

When all is said and done, I'll bet that its a bad ECU.

They run 450 bucks plus core charge from Porsche and are a PITA to change.

I made a summary in this thread some years ago about Cab stuff, with links.

Solder faults in the cab top control units are common. This is indeed repairable at a much lower cost than USD450. Typical repair time is 1/2 to 1 hour of labour.
Cheers,
Tore

Hmmm, Tore, old buddy...you repair them, don't you?

I paid the core charge and have one on the shelf! Having a spare is a good thing as the car isn't getting younger!

I've got a bunch of your stuff on the car already. Can I just ship it to you for repair?

I would say check the issue you're talking about (but I never heard of this). Then check the latch motors if there is a missing dent. You would only need to remove the top cover near where the top latches.

Otherwise, I've had similar issue and it was my top control module.

Even for a non DIY person, it's easy to remove. It's under the dash behind the steering wheel. You don't need to remove the wheel or anything to pull out the module. Then you just have to find someone good in electronic who can solder the bad joints.
