Why would someone want a 993 C4S at this end of the price spectrum rather than a C2S or even a "base" Carrera? I assume these wouldn't see snow or perhaps never even rain when this nice.

I think it's nuts that they priced it (generally speaking) higher or equal to the 991.2 4S. From a value point of view, what are they communicating to their customers about their new product?

Classic 993 vs 991.2 4S? Are you really serious about cost or value? "facepalm"

Really hard to compare 991.2 to 993. The comparison (and a purchase) is not logical, it’s emotional. Also, the scarcity of 993s adds something—question is, What?

Much as I am interested in buying a 993 S, while I have strong preference for C2S, I have remained open to C4Ss, if for no other reason than it broadens the base of possibilities.

Food for thought on production and rarity:
993 Carrera 38,636 produced World 93-97
993 Carrera S 3,714 produced World 97-98
993 Carrera 4S 6,948 produced World 96-97
Air Cooled ... not going to make them ever again..also last of the "Hand Built" 911s
991.2 4S over 10,000 to be produced World.

My point was that the dealership sells new cars. They get a steady allotment of 991.2 that they need to sell every month. Price is used as a proxy for value. Basically they're saying that this 20 year old car is a better car than the brand new cars they are trying to sell every month.
I understand about the appeal of the 993. I have one, it's great. I understand that the market will bear this C4S for around $80k or whatever, when they finally decide to get serious about selling it. So I'm not commenting on the driving experience of the 993 or the price asked (they only need to find one uninformed buyer!) or the market value of the 993. I'm just commenting on what they are communicating about their bread-and-butter everyday merchandise compared to their 20-year-old merchandise with their price ask.

I disagree. They are saying the 20 year old car is as VALUABLE. A multitude of factors play into value other than which is the 'better' car. Rarity, desirability, nostalgia.....

I didnt talk to the sales people but I will when I go back (991 engine fault code!?!?!?) . I wonder if they are using this to nudge first time buyers with a message about how great it is to own a Porsche and it could be a collectable some day just like this 20yo 993.
some of the recent 991's have had surprising value retention in the last year+(not just the GTS and 'R').... add to the story that a 20yo 993 is worth $120k and you could convince yourself that spending $130k on a new 911 isnt such a crazy idea.
