Nothing against the 912E community, but switching from a 912E to a 993 C4 is a DEFINITE upgrade! Congrats and enjoy the new car. There is lots to learn from these forums. Do some keyword searching and enjoy!

Very helpful, thanks!

OK noted, the Cup 2s are being shipped to me- I'll put some fresh summers or A/S on there (recommendations welcome). And keep these Boxterish 996 wheels for the winter tires (also recommendations welcome).

Thanks, 912E was my first Porsche, so it got me into the community at large. I always knew I needed a 911 eventually though. And to me 993 is the most beautiful iteration yet so that's where my focus was.

Speaking of Focus, my other car is a Ford Focus RS- and while it has a ton of grunt at 350HP, the visceral feeling of the 993 in 4th gear at 4k RPM is unmatched by any modern car I've driven.

Understand I am not a professional Porsche technician so it may be valuable to vet some of it right here on Rennlist

Amazing, thanks! This list is very comprehensive and I've printed it out to go through it more thoroughly.

So I'm thinking I want to get rid of these 996 wheels and get period correct turbo twist wheels.

It seems most recommend a 5-7mm spacer if I switch to the 18" turbo twist, but will they otherwise bolt right on, or is the lug pattern an issue? Also, will I need to recalibrate the speedometer and odometer? I think I'll go for solid vs hollow twist since they're about half the price now.

Check out the pinned thread

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...eir-993-a.html

There are so many pretty wheels to choose from...

Also here is where I got my info to get the right offset as I went with an aftermarket set from Work

That Sony unit looks like a great alternative to mounting my iPhone on the dash for navigation. How far does the screen project out from the dash? Is anything blocked besides the ash tray?

I'm also interested in your review of the Sony H/U. Not to derail your welcome thread (welcome, by the way), but could you post a couple bullet points about the headunit that might not be glaringly obvious until living with it for a while?

It projects a few inches out- obviously not ideal for viewing the screen but definitely adequate. It does NOT block the ashtray or anything else. The part that comes out is the stainless steel housing, so I've wrapped that in leather repair tape. It could look better if I found a more leathery looking material, but it is fine for now. I've also added a black trim ring although I have not taken a photo yet with that..

It is definitely a good alternative, since you'll get Carplay on the dash. I have not used Carplay, but if it is anything like Android Auto then you'll understand why it was so important to me to have it in every car.

Yes, I will definitely review it- my reviewing skills aren't very strong, so if you want to send a few questions via PM and I'll answer them here.

One thing I have to say is that I use Android Auto exclusively on it, so the software on the unit is not really important to me. As an Android Auto device, it is absolutely perfect. Perhaps better than the factory Sony unit in my Focus RS, since the Ford Sync3 software isolates audio and phone volumes (not really a big deal). This screen is definitely sharper than the Ford too.

I also needed something with a proper volume control **** as I don't like controlling volume with buttons. So this really hit the mark.

Ralph, could you post more of a side view of the Sony unit so we can see how far it projects from the dash?
