Can a modded 993 still be fun at the track

you dont need to drive like showdown911, in fact it's slow. It makes very good videos, and looks fast next to slower drivers, but sliding and catching the car slows it down. Don't get me wrong, the guy has incredible car control skills and *****.
Adding all those bits and pieces that Steve recommends, will never make 993 "competitive" in advaced group with two equal drivers. Probably the most sorted 993 here for track is Paddy's, which if I'm not mistaken was running 2:07-2:08s at the Glen/VIR on slicks i believe. Stock 981S on Hoosiers can match that. In fact, one beauty of 993 is how long consumables last: 50 sessions out of tires, 15 out of front pads, 30 out of front girodisks (big reds). Rear pads/rotors last forever. Very overbuilt and reliable car.
Im actually considering cayman S so i can be on more equal footing with my friends and also i haven't really driven anything besides 993. But I will be keeping 993.

Just came across this on another thread. Replace Spec Miata with 993.
http://www.randypobst.com/index.cfm?...e&mag_id=14878
"Call me crazy, but a low-powered car provides a more exciting and satisfying cornering experience than does a big monster. Drifting a Miata, ragged edge, through Turn Eleven at Infineon tickles the pucker gland in a way no GT1 driver can understand. It's because the absolute maximum speed at the apex is the goal. Carrying speed. That feeling is a big part of the popularity of Spec Miata. "

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, these cars make fun track cars and if driven properly car keep up with the water pumpers, not to mention look and sound better IMO. Some video of my 993 at VIR clicking out a few 2:06's.
Some older video at the Glen before the repave on Hoosier R6 rubber:

OG, what a leading question :)
Quite serendipitously, I came up on the site to practice my Korean...it's gone. Oh well, it will be back I am sure.
My 993 is going up on the block in the next few weeks, price yet to be decided. Therefore I cannot get into a sales pitch on it here without a price.
E Mail me at: mfschacht@gmail.com and I'll send you the specs on this CA emissions legal, Laguna Seca sound legal, 91 dB or less car. I am the second owner and have had it for almost 18 years.
I bought a 06 GT3, so this one needs to go to a new home. Maybe yours? Suffice it to say....(Whoops, I can't say much more.) Here is a teaser photo of the 3.8 RS tail.

Yep, golden rod, Rothsport Shifter, LWF, G50/30 gearbox out of a 3.8 Cup. Just need a Rothsport 3.9 motor. Sadly, the car hasn't been on the track in over a year. I've been spending more time/money racing Spec E46.

If you want to do it right...
My real true advice, is leave the 993 alone, cruise with it on nice days. Buy a Spec Boxster for $15,000....and go wheel to wheel racing. And don't think for a moment that Spec Boxsters are not fast...surprisingly fast, and a well driven, well shod Spec Boxster will chew up most 993 cars, sad to report.
Or, buy a 6GT3, 380 HP stock, 8,200 RPM Red Line, nice transmission, stock. Take it to the track with just a few mods:
Pin or weld the coolant pipes,
Put on some track pads, Pagid Yellow Front Pagid Black rear,
Add some Giro 2 piece rotors for the front, the rear if you have the budget,
Mount up a set of MPSC tires,
Add a race seat,
Add a Tequipment roll bar from Porsche,
Add some Schroth 5/6 point belts,
Cover the car in EXPEL, or 3M...
Fresh fluids...
And you are off.

Is that a 3.8 engine then? Curious if you have the spec of your car posted somewhere, Paddy. You drive it well and it is certainly fast. I'd be happy if I got close to that, but I think my street/track version is probably pretty heavy by comparison, and on Nitto, not Hoosier.

Nope, stock 3.6 motor. One day I'd like to do a 3.9 Rothsport motor, but Spec E46 racing has been consuming my cash these days. Here's a link to the specs:
