Small project idea - rear bumper cosmetic fix
I am bringing the 993 back to ‘street only’ duty, more to follow when the project is complete. Basically a refresh, suspension, etc.
Wanted to share the following in the meantime. After 55,000 miles, the front facing portions of the rear bumper had taken a beating from sand and gravel over the years. The tires kick up a lot of abuse. Will get it repainted at some point, but wanted to refresh the aesthetics in the meantime while waiting. Here was my $12 solution, it came out really well.
1. Cleaned the area thoroughly
2. Masked the outside ‘seam’ and the inner wheel plastic liner by the muffler
3. Applied about 5 coats of flat black Plastidip
4. Removed masking
Pics show a bit of gloss, but it’s actually fairly flat when dry and matches the inner fender plastic. Can be touched up as needed with another shot of Plastidip, or peeled off entirely if required.
This is the up-close view on a lift, but on the ground, it really looks inconspicuous following the natural bumper contour. And while waiting for a proper paint, it’s 100% improved.
Just a thought for those that like to do little improvement projects.
Cheers

Yup, paint will be done soon enough (Arctic ) but all the quid have been spent for this year. Will be replacing the bumper with a Euro one in any case.
And I think a new windshield will be next in line in terms of priority, we'll see. From more than a foot (unless you are on your knees), this beats paint missing altogether.

Not a bad idea!
My arches look similar. I was thinking of trying to find a clear stone guard or something for that area, but I think plastidip might be a better solution.

Thanks - yeah, I did the big cleanup about 6 years ago and since then, it's been really easy to keep it up with a quick once-over at the end of each season.
