Default Need a Windshield in PA

So the day I have always dreaded has arrived. Took a large rock and now have a cracked windshield. What are my glass options? Willing to travel up to 6 hours for install since I know the success rate is low.

I'd highly recommend you secure a set of the windshield templates. Hopefully someone on here can let you borrow them. Installing the new glass without will ensure a high probability of fail...

I have the windshield templates, you can have them in 2 weeks unless someone else steps up first.

I can confirm templates are essential
the rubber seals fit with no leaks and the windscreen is silent
I tried rope soap and goop all failed

Late to the party and not trying to cut line, but what are the templates. My 993 is currently getting painted and will be getting a new windshield as part of the package but this is the first I've heard of the templates. Put in a new one about 10 years ago with the rope and all was well.

I live North of Pittsburgh, PA. Sewickley Porsche which has been around 50+ years here serving the Pittsburgh area and Porsche Racing history recommended Jeff's Auto Glass. When I took delivery of my C4S last year it had a collapsed windshield gasket lower drivers side. It still had the original windshield and I wanted to preserve it so Sewickley recommended Jeff's. They removed the old windshield (amazingly they didn't break it coming out), removed the old gasket and put the new gasket on the original windshield and did an excellent job! Top notch and highly recommend. Sewickley has been having Jeff's do all the 911 windshields for many many years. They know their stuff.

I posted on my PCA region and the surrounding region with zero results. I will give Jeff's Auto Glass a call to see what's up this week. I think I will just keep driving with the crack until it gets bigger.

Ryan - I replaced my windshield about two years ago because of all the pitting. I used a local shop here that does a lot of work on Porsche's and high end sports cars. They did a great job, and I haven't had any issues. I didn't know anything about the templates, but perhaps the shop had them as I've had no problems. It's probably too far of a drive for you, but I could always put you in touch with the shop if you would like.

I would imaging that NYC metro area would have many options with experienced 993 windshield installers.

I had my WS replaced by a local Safelite shop here in Columbia, MD 2-3 years ago. It took them no time at all, probably less than 5 minutes to remove the WS. I offered templates I brought along but they were not needed. They used Pilkington glass, made in Germany, and Porsche seals. The workmanship and fitting were perfect. No creaking or weird noises. Whoever you decide to use, make sure they reconnect your radio antenna wire from the WS.
