Just bought a 993, get service before driving it home?
Finally pulled the trigger and will be bringing home a 993, pictures to come. Have to make a 500 mile drive back. The PPI shop said the car was tight but recommended routine maintenance. Car is low mileage (just shy of 30k) and shop recommend:
Transmission fluid change (no record of when it was done)
Fuel filter (no record of when it was done)
Spark plugs (no record of when it was done)
Oil change (18 months ago)
Brake flush (last in 2/2013)
Cabin air filter (no record of when it was done)
Charge $1,650
Wanted to wait and get it done near home to establish a relationship with local indy shop. Any benefits to getting it done before the long drive? Obviously the PPI shop has a vested interest = $.

Just my .02, & I'm sure some will disagree, but I would drive it home if everything is running fine.

Drive the living **** out of it on the way home...... just my 2 cents but .... I would have them do an oil change before the trip! That's what I would do...... . .. . . .

When I bought mine, I had a PPI done in Hawaii and they let me know a few things about the car. Had it shipped to California and had another shop look over it with a few specific instructions that I just needed to get the car back to Florida. Came back with an $11k estimate, most of which seem over the top. Asked them to flush the brake fluid, change oil/filters and fuel filter and off I went. Of course I had the necessary DME/fuel relay in the glove box, just in case.
Over 8000 miles later and except for adding oil along the way I didn't have a single problem as I drove in to South Florida. So, get the oil/filters done, grab the keys and drive! If something happens within the 500 mile trip, just consider it learning a bit more about your new car.

I'd actually be more concerned about the age of the tyres and also do a brake fluid flush, then check oil level. After that I'd say you are good to go.
As I say, tyres and brakes first for your own safety... the rest can be taken care of when home.
Failing that, have it trailered... 500 miles wouldn't cost much and offers best peace of mind
Welcome and enjoy your 993

I'd wait until you get back home to address all those needs. I would:
1. Check age/tread of tires
2. Tire pressure
3. Bring extra DME relay
Enjoy the 500 mile trip home. Congrats!

Transmission fluid change (no record of when it was done) Yes
Fuel filter (no record of when it was done) No as really not needed for many a mile.
Spark plugs (no record of when it was done) No, good for tens of thousands more miles
Oil change (18 months ago) Pull out the dip stick if the oil looks clean, hold off, if dirty change it.
Brake flush (last in 2/2013) Yes, easy driveway job with a pressure bleeder bottle
Cabin air filter (no record of when it was done) No these have proven to have a very long service life.
Charge $1,650 - Let the shop change the tranny fluid as a lift is really needed. Get the Mobil 1 oil at Wal-Mart. YOu may have to order the proper oil at Wal-Mart on-line for store pickup.
Oil filters and the two drain crush rings are dealer items so your total cost without an oil rebate will be about $80. A good first DIY project. A pressure bleeder runs about $50 and the fluid $25 +/-. A dealer good independent shop can cycle the ABS something you can't really do at home making sure it is flushed as well so it is your call as to doing it or not DIY.
All the above can really wait until you get home and find a service entity you want to use in the long haul. These cars are old enough that a Dealer does not automatically have any superior expertise in them over an independent who works on 993.
