Totally agree. The current T is more than a fun optioned base car. It has its own flavor due to the way is is configured and its rear end ratio. Then again, more raw may mean less actual performance. It think that a problem is that taking significant weight out and raising HP would cost $$ and the market might be too limited to make it worth while. That is, it is unclear that there is a significant market for a real "junior GT3" given the price/performance distance to a GT3. Modern production tech allows astounding variety, and modern analysis tech allows equally astounding profit maximization!

Yanking out interior pieces, adaptive systems, power windows, gps, etc wouldn't cost a thing, at least on the production side.

They could have easily made the T more raw.

Few of those things weigh very much. Your cell phone has a GPS receiver in it, and plenty of watches do too.

The PCM screen has to be there anyway for regulatory reasons (backup camera), although I suppose they could show it in the gauge cluster and leave the console empty. It would be nice if it were easy to remove/reinstall the back seats; that seems like some low-hanging fruit that hasn't been picked yet. Most of the remaining weight-reduction opportunities are hopelessly constrained by regulation.

You can already opt out of PASM, PDCC, RWS, and similar tech features that add significant weight, no new model required. Meanwhile, removing things like interior door handles is just an insult to the intelligence, sort of like the manual top on the Spyder that saves like 20 pounds over a perfectly-engineered automatic top.

Better to encourage the company to build the best road car they can. Nothing you can do to a road car will make a great track car, and nothing you can do to a track car will make a great road car.

Why not a Turbo R? 20 more hp, power, sunroof delete, PCCB's, GT3 suspension, strap door handles, Cup 2 tires and even different graphics/colors. They would sell a lot of them! I'd buy one!

Unfortunately yes.

As for making the car more raw, they could offer solid aluminum engine/trans mounts for those of us that enjoy some NVH.

Or just buy a 997.1 GT3 / RS - plenty of NVH!

Oh I'd love to, but when I have new 911 money I'll be buying a new 7MT car, and spinning up a lathe for some new engine mounts.

We must vote with our wallets to sustain the third pedal.

Barely used GT3s can come later.

Still waiting for a Porsche version of the lotus Exige. Make mine cup430 flavor please.

GT3 is as “raw” as it gets for a new Porsche, but it still has way too much stuff for my needs. I was a bit miffed my lotus both had power windows.

GT3 cup style interior would be fine with me. Don’t stop at sound deadening, get rid of the carpet entirely and the headliner should be an unpadded single sheet of alcantara (on lotus they would fall off so we can just skip the headlining entirely). Who needs a glove box and a lower dash? Serves no real purpose. Ditch the cage, throw LWBs and a couple airbags to make the feds happy in this and I am happy.

I remember reading that electric windows were actually lighter than hand cranks in the Lotus.

Nothing stopping you from converting your car to a GT3 Cup interior although it would be cool if Porsche offered a "Cup" spec to the GT/T models. The 911 needs more variants!!!!

The war was lost the second the Model S came out. One of the reasons why "classical" and more visceral elements like N/A are increasingly important to me, is because I've accepted that emotion is the ONLY reason to own an ICE car now, or at least in 5-10 years from now (infrastructure is really the only true EV holdback). Torque, power, quietness, etc. to me is almost regressive from an ICE car as you're just reminded how EV's do all that much better. Any ICE car I will spend lots of money on, HAS to sound good, loud, raw, and has to feel almost crass in its connection. Of course, I have a trusty Hyundai Sonata which is an excellent long distance cruiser and run about car, that's silent, and calm, and quiet, but in 10 years or so, as long as I have a charging port, I can't imagine why its little 4 cylinder would offer anything over an EV.

ICE to me is about PURE emotion now. If you don't get an emotional, visceral connection out of your ICE car, then soon enough, you'll be asking yourself "what's the point?"

What's funny is the standard 991 C2's have such wide hips, they were considered "wide body" when they came out. I honestly still think they're so wide, that going even wider won't yield much benefit. They're already rock magnets, and to me, a 911 being narrow enough to fit into spots and lanes without fear of "bursting at the seams" is part of its merit. With such wide hips, you'd have to start worrying about fitment, etc.

SUV’s like sportscars are lifestyle vehicles and, sure, you see loaded range rovers and G-wagens, but there is a distinct market for low tech old school and demand is high.
Agreed. The less "old school" style cars are being made, the more fanatical and willing to pay top dollar the remaining pond who want them, will be.

They were. And lotus people knew weights down to the gram. I am seriously considering carpet delete, radio delete, and the CF door panels, but the car gets mad when you remove door airbags.

I do put my money where my mouth is. Set aside the air cooled, lotus and Land Rover addictions. A couple years ago I bought a 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual tacoma. Utility package (rear seat delete, black plastic, no rear slider). I saw the writing on the wall that it was not long for this world, sure enough, 2018, no more 4 cylinder 5 speed and they all got the some fancy pedestrian/accident avoidance cruise control abomination. Thats crazy to me because Toyota trucks were the 4 banger manual. And the 2.7 is like the last non-direct injection NA engine sold. The drivetrain is a 25 plus year old design and is pretty much indestructible. Hopefully the 4.0 in the GT3 is 1/4 as durable. And hopefully Porsche keeps the 992 GT3 as pure as it can be.
