The problem is that when asked "what's the point of changing it ?" it's difficult to find a logical explanation. I understand that they are electronic switches but that in itself shouldn't immediately result in changing the way the shifter functions. There are plenty of things in a car that haven't changed in over half a century for the simple fact that there is no point when the initial arrangement still works just fine and is met with familiarity and comfort for the end user despite it becoming a " drive by wire " component.

Imagine if modern car designers were in the computer business. Every few years they would be re arranging the keys on a keyboard and the buttons on a mouse for the exact same reasons.......

For that blank area? Yeah, leather or at least some matte plastic -- I hate those piano black surfaces.

But even if there's no option, fingerprints may not be a huge problem if there's no reason to touch that area

Limegreen - I agree. Change for the sake of change can be a recipe for disaster. Not saying that will be the case here. Maybe the nubbin - or whatever the shifter ends of being/looking like - will be an upgrade from the 991 gear shifter. Or maybe not.

They could be talking about the buttons to the left/right of the temperature display. Those seem to be haptic-touch.

No other touch areas seem to be lit even though ignition is clearly on.

The 992 doesn't looks so different from the 991 (on the outside)as to affect my interest one way or the other. It is still mostly a 991 in form, and I like the 99. I''m waiting to see, sit in and drive a production 992 before making a judgement about the interior. When I first saw the 991 interior it looked cramped and busy with its high console and row of buttons, but it turned out to be less obtrusive and more functional than the previous generation.

I have have seen nothing that suggests the 992 is a shrunken Panamera (the 3/4 inch longer front cap doesn't equal that) or takes Audi design cues in its interior because it has more electrics.

The negativism would be baffling were this not a Porsche internet forum.

interesting 21'' rims, GT like? Also old dark blue color exterior hides plastic stuff pretty well, however i dislike front lip, this is definitely not a SD package.
