The front end looks pretty odd to me. The way the bumper line is almost totally straight across but the hood line is just slightly lower? And how rectangular the lower grill is. It all just looks a little too simple up front. The back isn't so bad but this car is not a looker to my eye. Maybe it's Porsches continuing modern practice of making sure the new 911 isn't too good looking so that it's easy to make it look better when they facelift it. 996, 997, 991 all looked better facelifted to me.

Looks very Audi design style to me in the front. Less organic curve to it, more clean/hard lines.
I think he was being facetious, though it would not surprise me if there were some general design philosophy directives coming down from the top. At a minimum, it looks like more of an effort to coordinate the design of the 992 with the passenger car and SUV lineup than there has been in the past. It used to be the rest of the lineup took cues from the 911, whereas now it appears to be a bit of the opposite direction.

Funny how everyone is saying the same things about the 997 vs the 991 when the 991 first came out. 991 looks too Panameraish, too much VW influence, 997 is the last of the independent days of Porsche. I think the base Carrera always leaves people a bit cold, but I think once the Turbo and GT3 comes out its gonna change people's minds. I personally found it interesting that they use the 993 panel gap in the 992.

Hey, the second part of your comment is my material!!! I'm the first one to call them out on that one.
The new taillights are a bummer, but from a distance regarding the general shape, I think the creases in the frunk were put there to try to hide the fact that the front got bigger and more front-engined looking, which I think is a big mistake. Sitting next to a mid engine Ferrari, I think the 991 has a win in terms of how tight the butt looks, but the low hood showing off the there’s-no-engine-there-ness is a big win for the Ferrari. The 991 took a big step forward there by making the front wider, but I think the 992 is taking a big step backward in that regard.
