Pretty sure the motors will be about the same 3.0TT as what we have today with a slight power bump (+25hp or so). Maybe X51 (or GTS engine) becomes next Carrera S and base Carrera creeps closer to today's S, for example...
GT3 motor is a more undecided question (4.0L may or may not hang on a little longer)...

My 991.2 is the beta model.

This is NOT going to be a 997.2 > 991.1 jump.
Will not be a new platform or chassis.
The 991 was only the third new platform change in the 911's entire history.

Anybody know if the general shape (front and rear are a given, but I mean more the core/structure like greenhouse, doors, roofline, etc.) are changing? Looks like a 996/997 situation if I'm not mistaken. I.e a new generation, but more like a major .2 to the previous generation. It seem to carry over the 991 architecture? On the other hand, if it has an entirely new chassis (I believe it does?), it would make sense that the aesthetic architecture would change.

It does seem that way. I thought it may be the angles, as some look more like the 991 belt line, but the greenhouse does seem slimmer.
Ah, makes sense. So I'm assuming it will be like the 996 > 997 jump. Generally similar outside, with subtle differences.

I recall reading something months ago about the next 911 moving to a modular chassis that would be shared, which seemed odd to me given how unique the 911 is relative to everything else in VAG's lineup.

I don't know if it's the angle of some of the pics, but it looks like the rear got (slightly) shorter, getting closer to cars like the Mercedes GTs ratio...

"The next-gen Porsche 911 will be based on a brand new modular platform that will have the engines mounted more towards the center of the car, but still retain the traditional rear-engine setup. Bringing the engine closer to the center of the car makes sense, because Porsche will not only be able to improve the dynamics of the 911, but its aerodynamics as well."

"We already know that the next 911 will be based on a brand new platform which offers better flexibility when it comes to what powertrains are going to be used, as Porsche plans to offer a plug-in hybrid version for the first time in the model's history.
Reports suggest that this new platform is also going to be used in the next Audi R8 and in Lamborghini’s successor to the Aventador. With that said, expect to see the flat-six units in the 2019 Porsche 911 mounted more towards the center of the vehicle, retaining nevertheless the classic rear-engine setup."

Another interesting thing is that some mules have quad exhaust tips, while others only have two. could this be a distinction between the regular C2 and the "S" models? Or, horrifically, could the mules with two tips be 4 cylinder models in a hybrid setup? Some mules appear to have a circular "bung" sticking out of the passenger rear fender (e.g., http://www.blogcdn.com/slideshows/im...1.jpg)...could this be a plug in socket for a hybrid version?
