Point taken. But those "people" are a very small sliver of the market. A niche of a niche. I have two NA air cooled 6 speeds that just sit. Nice to look at but not practical by any means...

For day to day duties I prefer the latest and greatest, fingerprints and all...

Yup. Just like iPhones.

Yep and I've had the PCM stuck in rebooting over and over... bad enough when you're trying to navigate and get no map, wait till it's your speedometer and revs.

@STG - A lot of car companies opening up shop here in Silicon Valley to help navigate this issue...

You have a lemon. My PCM has never rebooted while driving.

The 911 is like the Jeep Wrangler. Truly classic designs that only need to be slightly tweaked to stay fresh.

Yes, but Porsche has from time (964) to time (996) lost it's way a bit. Let's hope the 992 is a step in the right direction.

All early PCMs will go into reboot loops until they get an update...

Also you probably don't have 76k miles on yours.

The 964 is the hottest air cooled now.

I never liked it (ok maybe the 3.6 turbo) and the 996 was the equivalent of the first model year of a normal car times 10 and, minus the IMS, is actually a good car.

I think every bit of additional electronics is a liability. Then again I think vehicle design peaked with the 1959 Land Rover. And Porsche design in a 1971T and a 1995 993.

I wish I bought a 964 years ago when it was the only "affordable" 911 behind the 996 (the only "cheap 911" that hasn't started to soar in value). Being air cooled solidified the fact that it'd become classic. Now, they're bye bye into the sky like the rest of them.

Still one of the ugliest cars Porsche ever made, unless it's been heavily modified, ala Singer.
