Overall the 992 looks “OK”. To my eyes the rake of the roof, rear window and rear deck looks different than the 991, and I like it. Almost the same rake as the 993, but longer. There’s too much black plastic on the front and rear, meaning the grilles and rear diffuser. I’d check the option box for painted diffuser. The taillights are too small and squinty.

Yup, I was replying to the poster who said it was the Panamera dash. The post was deleted.

Don’t keep posting more awful pics of the rear and I won’t feel the need to comment on it again. 😛

On a positive note, I do really like the profile of the car and the front hood/light. It’s just the bumpers that really disappoint me. I think Porsche missed a chance to make a really cool looking car with some 993 aesthetics and instead built a car for the up and coming Chinese exec who’s Audi is about to come off lease.

Not a big fan of the styling - to each his own.

These pics just made me feel much better about placing my order for my 2019 last week.

The gear lever is completely out of character for Porsche (with the exception of the 918). It’s an ergonomic nightmare - are we supposed to grip it between thumb and forefinger ? Like some sort of perverse German cookie. It seems too small to grip like a normal gear lever, despite the positioning of the selector on the top (silver knurled part). Even the Panamera has a distinctly Porsche gear lever - It’s different, but still attractive.

We’re being trolled by Porsche, or they’ve completely lost the plot.

Look at the graphic on the centre display. Looks like a 992 to me.

Prinzess-Printen-Platte shifters are all the rage.

Having driven the Panamera and sat in the next gent Cayanne, I find their interiors absolutely first rate. I hope that the final cockpit is more like them than in the spy pics, which have some weird proportions that I really hope are the camouflage.

The more I see the exterior the less bothered I am about the changes from my 991. The overall proportions are the same, the flares front and rear look good, the details that seem to upset so many folks seem more and more marginal. I saw a white Cayman GTS yesterday and think the front, with its strong horizontal character due to the black spoiler/grills looks really good and sort of "next gen".

The prospect of more performance (all around and usable) remains the attraction to me- just as it has done in prior generations. If that turns out to be more than marginal, I might update again- for the forth time since 1974. Ok, i am also a sucker for the front flares and rear hips.

Call me freudian but I like a big **** in my right hand when I drive ... it is a natural place to rest one's hand when not needing both on the wheel.

Plus obviously that cookie lever isn't going to allow for manual shifting ... or maybe it is, in a hilarious way.

I think 992 looks fantastic and better than all previous liquid cooled 911's.

Still a bit of camo on the light bar.

I like the hood cutlines.

Another spy shot from the 992 interior - It appears to be a page from the new 992 Drivers Manual. Interestingly; Porsche refers to the new PDK lever as ‘The Shank’. I do love the Germans attention to detail. There is indeed a correct way to grasp The Shank (formerly known as the cookie lever). Some will prefer the manual transmission, but many will get the shank.

Happy Motoring.
