Default 992t or 718gt4?

Hello all,

recently joined the forum and have a bit of dilemma, as the title suggests. Would live to hear from those of you that have owned or own both, and any feedback? This car is mainly a weekend fun car, backroads and few track days a year.

thank you

Have you ever owned a Porsche? If so, which ones?

There's pros and cons to both and it boils down to personal taste. 918 sounds better, it's NA and drives great but it will never be a 911. If your heart is set on a rear engined 911, no 718 will ever do.

yes, current owner of 992. Also had a 718 gts several years ago and really enjoyed it. However I now find myself wanting a gt4.

In my opinion, the 992T is the better weekend/backroad car because of the turbo torque and the GT4 the better track car because of the midengine dynamics and ability to rev out the engine on track.

Base is more grand tourer than the T. The T will definitely feel more raw. 718 will be more raw than the T.
FWIW, I cross shopped the 981 GT4 and 991.2 T. I ended up with a 7.2 GT3 and a 992 T.

There isn’t a bad option. I really loved flogging the gt4 on back roads. Turbo torque is totally unnecessary at 6K rpm. The gt4 is really into that. It also has a nice small feel and is very nimble. I’d take a 992 for a grand touring, daily, or highway cruiser over a gt4 but a gt4 over the 992 for backroads any day.

I'd argue there are a few. GT4/4RS, spyder/SRS.

I never wanted a Cayman until Porsche decided the GT4 needed to exist, and with the size increase of the 911s, and the far better resale a GT car gives over a normal 911, it became a more logical choice. A T won't be a bloodbath on resale, but it's unlikely to hold it's value as well as a GT car.

When it comes down to it are you buying a 911 for the badge, or are you buying it for the driving experience? The 'buying a Porsche sports car that costs the same as a 911, but isn't a 911' factor is pretty hard to overcome, but I think the GT4 comes close to giving the driver enjoyment I got from a 997.

I wouldn’t recommend buying a 911 for the badge.

You can buy just the badge by itself from suncoast and it’s a lot cheaper than getting the whole car.

Weekend, fun, backroad car = 992T
Track car = GT4

Which is more important to YOU……not me.

My 992 T is my Grand Touring car, mostly used for PCA events and local trips, when I want to do more sporty driving I prefer my 981 Cayman even if its only a basic S w/X73.

In a perfect world I'd have my T and a GT4. Not sure if a GT4 is worth the 70K price difference over my CS for my use car - zero track time.

It's totally personal preference. I have a 2022 CGTS40. Then I added a 2023 992T to the garage. And while a really enjoyed that car, I let it go as I prefer the smaller, NA mid engine car. If space wasn't a factor, I would have kept both.

Having both is the correct answer, of course.
